GS: The Item revitalization is a very big change for AoC, but many MMOs have this kind of statitistics and equipments impact on the game. Why Funcom decided to make this very anticipated revamp now and not before, or even why AoC didnt start with this more classical approach to RPG system?
Thats not really for me to say. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and it is easy to say now that this was the better course. I am sure that the original team had very valid reasons for the choices they made prior to launch, it just didnt work out as expected, and wasnt popular enough to grab players attentions. Sometimes it is only when the masses get a hold of your game that these things become apparent. I think that is mainly why we have now made the changes we have, the feedback clearly told us that people didnt think the RPG system provided enough incentives!

Interview with Craig Morrison on IncGamers – Hyborian Adventures

IncGamers recently got to speak to the game director of Age of Conan, Craig Morrison, to find out how the game was coming along, what he would have done differently with hindsight, and what’s to come for AoC.

AoC was a highly anticipated MMO title which promised to introduce new styles of gameplay we’d not seen before in an MMO (talking about mounted combat and a new combat style, as well as little adult touches like getting drunk and visiting hookers). Why do you think the game didn’t retain its subscribers after launch?
I dont think there was one single reason; it was a combination of many factors. Of course there were issues with the games content and performance at launch. I think performance we have resolved virtually all the significant issues so there I think we suffer slightly from the fact that due to those issues there are a significant number of ex-players out here who didnt have a good experience and understandably havent been here to see it resolved.

Hard-working may be an understatement when it comes to Age of Conan’s current live development team. Over the last few months, the developers have pushed themselves to reconfigure a game that – at it’s release – wasn’t what players wanted or expected. But with the upcoming Game Update 5, the folks at Funcom have not only created new content for their player base with the Tarantia Commons, but they’ve also completely renovated what they’re calling the "RPG system" in AoC, among other things. Few games have seen such extensive changes in their histories, so we sat down with AoC’s Game Director and Director of Communications, Craig Morrison and Erling Ellingsen, to find out some of the details in GU 5.

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited: Eberron Unlimited Interview
Jun 26th
MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood had a chance to speak with Fernando and Kate Piaz about the recent decision to turn Dungeons and Dragons Online into a F2P MMO.
Recently, MMORPG.com spoke with the husband and wife team of Fernando and Kate Piaz from Turbine’s Dungeons and Dragons Online to talk about the game’s transition from a subscription based title to the free to play model. Formerly known as Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach, the new incarnation of the game will be called Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited.
The DDO Dynamic Duo explained that they felt it was necessary to rename DDO due to the new business model. "It’s also to reflect," he elaborated, "just how far the game has come since launch." He went on to list a number of major elements that are present in today’s game that weren’t around at launch: soloable, PvP elements, outdoor adventures, a higher level cap, and more.
