A daunting alert was sent out on the official City of Heroes site. An old danger reenters the game world:
"A shadow passing overhead…Fire and destruction raining from the sky…
A warlike adversary returning to menace Paragon City and the Rogue Isles once again…
The Rikti are returning.
Starting Friday July 17th (11:00 AM Eastern / 10:00 AM Central / 8:00 AM Pacific) and lasting through Sunday July 19th (11:59 PM Eastern / 10:59 PM Central / 8:59 PM Pacific)
The Rikti will once again renew their assault. Every hero and every villain’s services will be required to repel these vicious invaders if our homeland is to be safe from their murderous invasion.
Everyone will be called to action, will you answer the call?"

Global Agenda: Closed Beta Phase One Begins July 24th

Earlier in the month we reported that Hi-Rez Studios had nailed down July as a timeframe for when we could expect the game to enter Closed Beta.
The developers are now ready to set a more solid date. The first phase of beta will begin on July 24th, 2009. The beta process will follow in a similar vein to that of the Aion beta, with each phase spanning a single weekend.

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited: Unlimited Examined

MMORPG.com Managing Editor Jon Wood takes a look at Turbine’s DDO: Unlimited, the Free 2 Play rebirth of the company’s Dungeons and Dragons MMO.
No major North American studio has tried to switch a game’s business model years after launch. Turbine, recently,moved Dungeons and Dragons Online in that direction, pioneering a movement that, if successful, could have a lasting impact on an MMO industry that has already shown more openness to the item shop model.
Time and time again industry experts have said that in order for an item shop game to be successful, it has to be applied in the right way, to the right game. Is Turbine the right company? Is the system well implemented? Does the item shop unbalance the game? Is DDO, a game conceived as a subscription MMO, the right game to make this transition? Is now the time to be making the move? These and other questions need to be answered before anyone can judge such a controversial change.

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited: Launch Date Announced, NDA Dropped

Turbine has set the launch date for Dungeons & Dragons Eberron Unlimited, in an announcement made by the company today. The game is penciled in for an August 6th, 2009 launch.
In addition to the announcement, the NDA has also been lifted on the Dungeons & Dragons Eberron Unlimited beta. So with the flood gates now opened, share your information and screenshots with us on the forums!
