Our Game Director Craig ’Silirrion’ Morrison took the time, to sit down with the folks from Onlinewelten to discuss Update 5 and it’s impact on the Community in an extensive interview.
Onlinewelten: Update 5 is live on the servers of Age of Conan now. Among other things the patch opened the gates to a new district. What is new about the Tarantia Commons? What have they got to offer? Could you summarize for our readers what else has improved with the update?
Craig Morrison, Funcom: I think there is quite a bit in there to be honest, and at least a little something for everyone.
Firstly there is the revamp of the item and character statistics, some major changes to the classes with all the classes getting improved and updated feat tress that take into account the new system, a complete overhaul of the gem crafting system, a lot of new goals and additions for guild cities and all that before we even talk about the content More >
Onlinewelten interviewt Game Director Craig Morrison – Hyborian Adventures
Aug 10th
Was würdest du heute anders machen?

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning: 1.3.1 Now on Public Test Server!
Aug 7th
Version 1.3.1 of Warhammer Online is now available on the public test server. The new patch includes major tweaks to City Invasion gameplay, upgrades to Keeps including the addition of a second ramp up to the keep lord, group summoning stones, major performance improvements, and more!
City Invasion changes from the notes:
We have collapsed the invaded city states down to three states labeled Contested, Captured, and Rebuilding. City defenders are now able to access and spawn in all city states, allowing them to continue the fight even after the enemy has captured the city! Below are the details on these three states:
- Contested - During the contested phase, both Realms are fighting for control of the city. The city is open to players of Rank 30+. The contested city Scenario becomes open to players below Rank 30. Control is gained through capture of the Battlefield Objectives, killing your enemies, and through winning the city Scenario. The city Public Quest is there to direct players toward these goals.
- Captured - The attackers have captured the city! The Warlord Public Quests open, and the ruler of the city becomes vulnerable. Attackers no longer need to defeat the warlords to unlock the king encounter. Both Realms are still More >
City of Heroes: Color? Or Colour? Armor? Or Armour?
Aug 7th
The City of Heroes forums have been completely overhauled. As a result, the forums are all centralized in one location, with the various languages receiving their own set of boards. While French is French, English is not always English. The American forums and the European English forums have now merged, and quite hilarious results were sure to follow.
One such example is the thread "It’s COLOR and ARMOR!" by forum-goer PhiloticKnight:
NOT "colour" and "armour".
Wuith aull thouse extrau YOUUUUS in your wourds, you daumn Brits sound FRENCH!
And I KNOW how much you love THOSE guys.
Just figured I’d get that out there early before the merger and before DOOM!
The thread goes on for at least 16 pages as of this writing, be sure to check it out.
So then…Which is it? Color? Or Colour? Armor? Or Armour? Let us know in the comments! My vote? Color! Armor! Can you guess where I’m from? :)
Final Fantasy XIV: Massive Official Site Update
Aug 7th
The official website for Final Fantasy XIV has received a major update. The site has been updated with a slew of new information on the jobs, races, storyline, and even some of the more specific features to be available in the game.
One example of this is Guildleves. Guildleves are selected by players to fine-tune their experience towards the make-up of their group. When players take on a quest, they can select from one of several available Guildleves which will determine both the risk and rewards commensurate with that risk.
This should allow parties to seek challenges that fit the playstyle or skill-level that best suits them. From the sounds of it, it doesn’t seem like selecting a harder Guildleve just means the mobs will be harder, but instead the specific tasks of the quest will be more risky. They give the example of using a Guildleve to gain access to a normally restricted area to tackle a quest. I imagine going this route will be much riskier than approaching it a different way, of course, the resulting reward will match.
The site has also been updated with information on one of the game’s city-states, Limsa Lominsa, and while two other states are More >
City of Heroes: Why City of Heroes Should Be Worried
Aug 6th
In a feature over at MMOSite, writer Cecil Adkins examines why the folks at Paragon Studios should be worried about their upcoming competition in Champions Online.
The article breaks down the reasons into a few points:
- Champions online is new and shiny
- The issues surrounding the implementation of the Mission Architect has left a bad taste in many users’ mouths.
- City of Heroes PvP is still "a mess".
- Cryptic Studios has had the opportunity to utilize hindsight in their development of City of Heroes to hopefully not repeat the same mistakes in Champions Online, as well as directly cater to the needs of new players who aren’t getting what they want out of City of Heroes.
- The Nemesis System.
- Updates to City of Heroes have been slow-going.

City of Heroes: Overcoming the Impossible
Aug 6th
NCsoft’s Matt "Positron" Miller, the Lead Designer for the five year old City of Heroes MMO, writes this developer journal discussing the Powers Customization system that will be available in Issue 16.
Ok, maybe "impossible" is overstating it, but "Overcoming the Boat Load of Work" just doesn’t have the right ring to it. You see, when City of Heroes was made over five years ago, customizing the look of your powers was never considered. When the art for the powers was done, the colors for the powers were "baked in," in such a way that it would be impossible to tint them to a different color later. It wasn’t until we had our first feedback from outside the company that we realized the corner we had painted ourselves into.
You see, we had given players the most customizable character creator ever seen in an MMO. In a genre where individuality was sometimes very hard to come by, yet desired by nearly everyone who played, we offered your heart’s content of custom options for your look even before you logged into the game. Or so we thought we did. We had not considered the fact that everyone’s Power Blast looked like everyone else’s. More >
