Global Agenda: Hands-On Preview
Sep 18th
MMORPG.com’s Carolyn Koh had the opportunity recently to sit down for a play test demo of Hi-Rez Studios’ upcoming shooter MMO Global Agenda.
"Team Fortress on Speed!" was how my compatriot described his hands-on play session with Global Agenda. I do not do well with FPS games being that most of them give me vertigo. I had seen Global Agenda and played through the tutorial at E3 and thusly hauled a gamer bud with me to PAX to play the game while I took notes. This was his first look at Global Agenda and he was still talking about it through the next weekend when I saw him again at a house warming party.
Although I spent all of my in-game time at E3 indoors, most of the maps were outdoors although some had some in-door bits, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it did NOT give me vertigo. Although the bits of maneuvering inside a building did make me a little queasy, it was nowhere as bad as games such as the aforementioned TF2. The game Fury came to mind when I first saw Global Agenda. It was a game that MMORPG.com had given a graphics award to one More >

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning: Hickman on WAR’s Biggest Mistakes
Sep 17th
Speaking at GDC, Mythic Executive Producer Jeff Hickman detailed some of the biggest mistakes Mythic made with Warhammer Online.
Mr. Hickman spoke about the major mistakes that haunted the developer for over a year, with the first of which being challenge of play. On this mistake Hickman states:
"There’s a big difference between easy play and ease of use. And one of the lessons that we thought we learned from ourselves and other games, was that it’s important to have ease of use, and it’s also important to hit the right balance between easy gameplay, challenging gameplay, and too difficult. We thought we hit that, but Warhammer, in PVE, in the beginning, is too easy. It doesn’t make you thrilled to do it."
The second issue ties into the first issue that the game was in fact, too easy. The developers built many social tools for the game, but there wasn’t much of a reason to use them given the ease of play.
The third major mistake was that of the game’s economy, or lack thereof. As many players can attest to, there simply isn’t much to buy with your hard earned gold in Warhammer Online, and this fact has been a great detriment More >

At GDC Austin, Mythic Entertainment executive producer Jeff Hickman delivered a talk in which he spoke frankly about mistakes the company has made, particularly in the last "interesting year" since the launch of Warhammer Online.
Speaking passionately about the future of the MMO space, Hickman began by saying "a variation on this has been heard by EA people and Mythic people quite a bit." He began by acknowledging the difficulties Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, for which he was executive producer, has faced: "It’s been an interesting year for Warhammer."

However, he says, "We had great ideas for all of these really cool social tools, and we built them into the game. But the game doesn’t require friends. Part of it is that it’s too easy." You can design in the need for players to have to work together, but Hickman warns that "you shouldn’t force friendship, but it’s important, and there’s a balance there. You can do so many things solo, that friendship, at least in the beginning levels, is not necessary, and it’s super dangerous for your games."

Recently, ZAM sat down with Executive Producer Todd Harris to discuss various aspects of Global Agenda. There were lots of surprises in this interview. Not only can we learn about PvP and PvE combat system but also Todd Harris brought their unique AvA system.
The third style is what we call AvA — ’Agency vs. Agency’ — or also referred to as ’The Campaign’.
Global Agenda is a fast paced, action packed adrenaline rush that plays differently than any other game in the MMO space. Hi-Rez Studios has spent a great deal of time creating a skill based game that feels like a shooter but plays like something more. Persistent elements and an abundance of customization will keep players engaged and thirsty for another match.
The interview also told you more about vehicles, server clusters and so on.

Who Touched My Client? – When MMOs Confront with NUDE Pack – Part I

Who Touched My Client? – When MMOs Come up with NUDE PackBy Chou Kiba
Kiba: well, hello and play mmo for mmo beauties!
We all like sexy female characters in MMORPGs. Busty women, almost bare clothes and sweet faces, MMO developers already do their best to make a game LOOK charming. Then, have you ever heard about the nude pack in MMORPGs? Nude pack is always developed for a certain MMO. After such pack is installed, all characters in the game will be naked in your screen. It may satisfy someone’s curiosity, but in most cases, it hurts other players’ feeling, especially for female players.
Most nude packs are made by oneself or a small team. They exploit the popular games including video games and MMORPGs. Both World of Warcraft and Lineage 2 are hot victims of dude pack. Recently, NHN’s new hot MMO – C9 became the new target of dude pack teams, the only female character Saman’s naked screenshots are widely spread around the internet.
Someone said it was developers’ commercial speculation, and others blamed it to the weak client encryption. However, whether it’s commercial speculation or not is not our topic today. In this article, we are going to review More >
