Issue 16 reinvigorates 5-year-old City of Heroes… or does it?By Cecil Adkins
Cecil Adkins is a fiction writer and covers MMORPGs for Examiner.com. He is an active player of City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, and several other MMOs. He can be found on the web at www.ceciladkins.com.
I’ve said elsewhere that I was prepared to dismiss the latest update to City of Heroes, Issue 16: Power Spectrum, as a light, perhaps even disappointing issue. I know, I know. Powers customization is a big deal, and it’s inarguably the biggest requested feature since the beginning of the Paragon Studios superhero MMO. It also required a massive amount of work to implement, some of which is detailed by a post from the lead animation developer on the official forums. So don’t think I didn’t realize how much a lot of people wanted the feature, or how much work would have to go into it, especially since at one point there were statements from the developers pretty much saying that it would be impossible – or as close to impossible as you could get without actually being impossible – to implement.

EVE Online: the Light Touch in Creating a Fresh Pattern
Sep 23rd
Traditionally, there is no consensus of opinion among online gamers as to the view of the in-game privilege. Deep down, no one could be convinced of admitting to the reality that have gone from being the king loved by all to becoming a lobster on his last day in the restaurant. In the virtual world which being organized by fantasy and fiction, some people is enjoying life in the fast lane while a group of players living in hell. It’s definitely the privilege. Now, the EVE Online has naturally moved toward a brand-new pattern which manifested the determination of CCP Soundwave over balancing the game further.

The magnetic pull of new version mainly lied on the change of NPC corporations, and they on Singularity are now being taxed at 11% out of the blue. “This undoubtedly will crack the former structure”, an EVE player said. “Hopefully, this will let player corporations compete on equal footing with NPC corporations”, he added.

World of Warcraft: AGDC ’09: Exclusive Video Interview
Sep 21st
Our very own Garret Fuller sits down with World of Warcraft Production Director J. Allen Brack for an exclusive video interview at this year’s Austin Game Developer’s Conference.
In the interview we learn some on how version 3.3 is coming along and what features and content we can expect with the new patch. Mr. Brack describes version 3.3 as concluding the Arthas storyline, and will do so with a new raid. The new raid will come in several flavors, 10 man heroic, 10 man regular, 25 man heroic, and 25 man regular. In addition, a new 8 boss dungeon will be included, and a new legendary two-handed axe, Shadowmourne, will be introduced to the game.
Mr. Brack also explained the process that went into coming up with the Cataclysm expansion, given that the expansion has defied some expectations of perhaps a new class, or even a new continent. The expansion will instead add another two races to the roster (Goblin, Worgen) and give a "face lift" to old Azeroth.
On the subject of why not a new class, Mr. Brack explains that they simply didn’t want to do two new classes back to back, and instead went with two new races as The Burning More >

Lord of the Rings Online: First Look Preview
Sep 21st
MMORPG.com’s Carolyn Koh brings us this first look at the upcoming Lord of the Rings Online expansion, Siege of Mirkwood.
If there is one thing that players of The Lord of the Rings Online are not surprised by, it is what is coming down the line. That is the pro as well as the con of designing a game based on as famous a piece of literature as Tolkien’s epic work. However, now that the story has progressed beyond the Mines of Moria, the anticipation turns to answering the question, "Which area comes next?" Turbine Executive Producer Jeffrey Steefel and I chuckled over that as he took me on a run through the upcoming expansion – Siege of Mirkwood. "Black squirrels?" I asked. Indeed. All that is dark and evil lurk in Mirkwood, so tainted that even the squirrels are black.

Interview with Bill Roper: Champions Online Respond to the Balance Patch Issue
Sep 21st
Today, we are glad to take this opportunity to interview the legendary MMO developer – Bill Roper from the Champions Online team. We have had Bill answer some typical questions that have confused our players, such as the controversial patch released on Champion’s launch day and the differences between Champions Online and the City of Heroes. Throughout the interview, what touched me most were Bill’s great patience and his amazingly positive attitude towards players’ suggestions/opinions. Hope all the misunderstandings will go and the interaction between Champions and its players can go better and better!
