And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere, And gie’s a hand o’ thine! And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught, For auld lang syne. December brought us patch 3.3, Icecrown Citadel’s new raid and 5-mans, “Rocket bare!”, and the endless joy of the new Dungeon Finder. I think we can all agree that 2009’s going out on a high note, and that this is one of the best patches Blizzard’s ever released.
Arcane Brilliance: How to be a good PUG mage: “It was like some kind of idiot convention, and I was the keynote speaker.” Totem Talk: On unique gearing and gear consolidation: Rossi has mixed feelings on the benefits of gear consolidation, particularly because +spellpower mail is far better itemized for Restoration, and Enhancement shares gear with hunters, who don’t want the same stats. Official patch 3.3 confirmation and patch notes: Patch 3.3 went live on December 8th to universal acclaim, and the enormous popularity of the Dungeon Finder took everyone by surprise. The lore of patch 3.3: A fantastic joint effort between Adam, Alex, and Sacco to bring you the background on how patch 3.3’s story came about.

Reminder: Second wing of Icecrown Citadel opens soon
Dec 31st
After four weeks of repeatedly storming the citadel, the next wing in Icecrown Citadel should be opening soon. Specifically, the Plagueworks should be available on January 5th. At least, that’s what Muradin here said. The screenshot above shows that there are still 28 days remaining even though it was taken this week. I’m not sure if there is a glitch in the Matrix or what. In theory though, we should be breaking through the gates with next week’s raid reset. More bosses available, means extra loot and more Emblems of Frost to pick up.
The bosses
- Festergut (My impressions)
- Rotface
- Professor Putricide
Some loot
- Black Bruise (Festergut)
- Trauma (Rotface)
- Tiny Abomination in a Jar (Professor Putricide)
I’m getting impatient. I want to kill Arthas already. Don’t you? But we’ll just have to wait. This will help satisfy our raiding cravings a while longer.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to Arthas. WoW.com’s Guide to Patch 3.3 will keep you updated with all the latest patch news.Happy New Year; here’s a January wallpaper for you

Did you know that it’s been ten years since the Y2K scare? I remember sitting at my best friend’s house, calmly explaining to both her and her brother that the real trouble was coming in 2038. And, just as expected, nothing happened.
Anyway, that’s the past, and 2038 is still almost three decades away. For now, take solace in the fact that Millennials have not yet taken over the Internet. (Does it scare you that <a href=”http://xkcd.com/647/”people born post-9/11 are old enough to use the Internet?) And, you can put our new wallpaper on your desktop! Check it out:

Are you familiar with that firework? It’s from the Summer Festival. It’s also directly from the books:
There were green trees with trunks of dark smoke: their leaves opened like a whole spring unfolding in a moment, and their shinin branches dropped glowing flowers down upon the astonished hobbits, disappearing with a sweet scent just before they touched their upturned faces. (from The Fellowship of the Ring chapter 1, at Bilbo’s Party)
Now, go. Have a good night. And, if you’ve got the time yet to do so, make some eggnog. (That’s More >

Blizzard helps authorities track fugitive
Dec 31st
Blizzard helped an Indiana sheriff track an allegedly drug-dealing, definitely WoW-playing fugitive to Canada. Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Roberson, who used to play World of Warcraft, discovered that Alfred Hightower aka Rastlynn, was an avid player. So he contacted Blizzard with a request for help in locating his quarry. Three months later, Blizzard sent Roberson a package containing Rastlynn’s IP address, billing address and other info. After finding out the fugitive’s latitude and longitude from his IP, Roberson used Google Search to pinpoint Rastlynn’s exact location. With the cooperation of Canadian authorities, Hightower has been deported and now awaits his fate in the U.S.
Usually it is Blizzard that is calling the police for help, as in the cases of:
- The teenager who threatened to blow up a plane using in-game chat.
- The kid who threatened to kill himself if his ban wasn’t removed.
- The teen who was arrested for making a suicide threat to a GM.
