Preview of character creation in Final Fantasy XIV
Dec 29th
The start of the beta signups for Final Fantasy XIV was certainly good news for the many people anticipating the game next year, but it didn’t exactly pierce the fog surrounding the game. Square-Enix, of course, has always played their cards close to their chest when handing out previews, but there’s still so much more to learn about the game and a number of curious people. FFXIVCore, a fansite with an active base of users translating as much new information on the game as possible, has posted a set of new scans and translations detailing that most important of processes in an MMO: character creation.
While there isn’t as much hard information as fans would like (and isn’t that always the case), the characters on display boast a wide variety of slight differences, as noted by the article. There’s also some information regarding a third force in the game’s main conflict, the Garlean Empire, although details on it are scant. Still, the promise of a detailed character creator is certainly alluring, as are most of the pictures we get regarding said character creator. Lineage 3’s Code Stolen Issue Ends, TERA to Be Released as Planned
Dec 29th
The heatedly-discussed lawsuit concerning Lineage 3’s code disclosure issue has come to an end, which causes another stir. After proceedings at second instance, the Korean court has maintained the court decision made at first instance. That is, defendants were found guilty of disclosure of Lineage 3’s technical secrets, and certain defendants’ sentences were even enhanced.
The verdict of guilty reached at first instance was maintained.
On Dec. 23, Seoul Central District Court handed down the same sentence pronounced at first instance on the vice development director of Bluehole Studio – Mr. Park who had tried to disclose Lineage 3’s business secrets to a famous Japanese game company during his tenure in NCsoft. Specifically, Mr. Park was sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment of one and a half years with a 2-year suspension of execution, and Mr. Bae was sentenced to an 8-month imprisonment with a 2-year suspension of execution. But Mr. Yo and Mr. Kang were punished more heavily with a fine of 10 million Wons instead of 7 million Wons decided at fist instance.
The judge at second instance expressed that Lineage 3 undergoing years of development was a valuable asset possessed by NCsoft, so the verdict of innocence was hard to be More >

Eregion: Our path to Rohan?
Dec 29th
Given that I managed to miss this when it came up on the forums a few weeks ago, I have no doubt that a number of you are yet unaware, too. Check this out:
See that yellow line? That’s the southern border of Eregion. See that grey line between the yellow one and the Misty Mountains on the right? That’s where any prior development stopped.
If you want to have a closer look, check out the interactive map at the official site. Curious just what’s changed? Check it against the old map over at Arda Online.
Hmmm. Looks like there’s a new town there. And some ruins. Wonder why that is.
Perhaps we’re heading south in the near future?
The best of WoW.com: October 2009
Dec 29th
October, as with August, was mostly a lot of news reporting. The patch 3.3 PTR dropped on October 1st and everyone went nuts for the last (we think) major content patch of Wrath of the Lich King. Next up? The content patch heralding the approach of Cataclysm, but with a lot of gated content between ourselves and that, we’ve got a ways to go. Ask a Faction Leader: Cairne Bloodhoof: Among all the AAFL columns he’s done so far, Sacco’s personal favorite is Cairne.
Spiritual Guidance: Don’t be that priest: Matt Low not-so-gently lectures his fellow priests on the failings to which the class is prone while not paying attention or entering an encounter unprepared. Searching for the most popular server: Schramm takes a look at some data and wonders — what’s the busiest and/or most crowded server out there? Patch 3.3 PTR: New Tauren skins found: So what are those things anyway? A new set of NPCs for Icecrown? A new barbershop option? Tribal markings for the Grimtotem? Chill of the Throne: Dodge nerfed 20% in Icecrown Citadel: The debuff is quickly termed “Icewell Radiance” by disgruntled tanks everywhere.
