WoW Rookie: Thanks for the memories
Dec 30th
New around here? WoW Rookie points WoW’s newest players to the basics of a good start in the World of Warcraft. For links to all our tips, tricks and how-to’s, visit WoW.com’s WoW Rookie Guide.
There’s nothing quite like your first time through Azeroth. Capture those memories by snapping screenshots (pictures of what’s on your screen) in game as you explore, level, discover, plummet, laugh, triumph, fail … All the moments that make life within the World of Warcraft so utterly bewitching.
Screenshot basics
- Take a screenshot by hitting the Print Screen button on your PC or Command+Shift+3 on your Mac. You can set a more convenient key binding in game in your Game Menu; hit Key Bindings and scroll down to Miscellaneous Functions.
- Screenshots get stored in the World of Warcraft folder on your computer. Look for the folder called Screenshots. Screenshots used to be saved as big, unwieldy TGAs, but now you’ll find them in convenient .jpg format.

The Queue: The new standard
Dec 30th
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky be your host today.
That’s a picture of my hunter above. She can use some better gear, and hopefully this weekend it’ll be her turn to get decked out in tier 9. It’s just so easy and fun. Plus I really like the idea of all my 80’s having their tier 9 shoulders to look at on the loading screen. That’s not strange, is it?
Saberix asked…
“Is tier 9 gear the new standard in gear? Am I going to be teased if I don’t have it?”

Empire of Sports : Tournois Achilles (bobsleigh)
Dec 30th
Blizzard’s comments on the in-game Cataclysm earthquakes
Dec 30th
Blue posters in the official forums have started leaving comments about the earthquakes happening in-game, which as we reported the other day, appear to be linked to in-game mobs that are potentially ushering in the beginning of the Cataclysm world event.
The comments are somewhat cryptic, but that is par for the course with Blizzard. They like to tease — to hold the carrot in front of you and make you run for it. But the evidence we presented Monday was pretty solid, and it’s gained even more traction in the community and around the net; so this is an interesting follow up to it all.
The comments thus far after the break.

Atlantica Online: Child’s Play Withdraws from Fundraising Event
Dec 30th
NDOORS Interactive recently announced a promotion whereby a new box that could potentially contain some of the game’s most rare and sought after items would be made available for 3999 Gcoins at Atlantica Online’s item mall, and that 5% of the gross revenue generated from the event would be donated to the Child’s Play charity. This is no longer the case. NDOORS Interactive has announced today that due to negative player feedback Child’s Play has withdrawn themselves from the event.
In-game models I would change if I could
Dec 30th
In the transition to Cataclysm, an increasing amount of the game looks pretty dated, and we’ve already see Blizzard take a wrench to a number of models like druid forms and major lore figures. I’ve been hoping for a while that they’ll do the same with the game’s earliest and most dated models — the ones that haven’t changed a whit since the classic game hit beta — and particularly the following. All of them are a jarring difference from the graphical quality of Northrend creations, and only stand to get more so in Cataclysm:
1. The wyvern
The wyvern is the model from which Blizzard cribbed the horrifying older version of Tauren cat form, but it was already awful in its own right. Compared to gryphons, wyverns look…well…terrible. They have a host of much less impressive and realistic animations and just seem like they’re a lower-resolution model overall. The run animation on the player mount version makes it obvious that the thing was never meant to run, and the top of its head looks like somebody took an experimental swing at it with a frying pan. I have yet to see a Horde player fly one of these monstrosities longer than More >
Dofus : Interview de David Calvo
Dec 30th
WoW Moviewatch: Christmas with the Critters
Dec 30th
WoW Model Viewer’s Christmas contest really turned out some great videos this season. Mushanga’s entry was Christmas with the Critters and is probably going to be on my playlist for a long time. The movie is fast-paced, fun to watch, and full of several laughing moments. I love the premise, and the film’s closing gag was surprising and painfully true.
Christmas with the Critters is the story of an old target dummy, who simply wants to enjoy the holidays by playing with his woodland friends. Unfortunately, a big bad wolf is stalking the same forest and tries to make lunch of the target dummy’s friends. But the dummy won’t stand for it, and hatches an ingenious plan.
I think a subtle strength of Mushanga’s script is that it plays on the traditional Christmas theme that we see in so many mainstream movies. An underdog character tries to enjoy the holidays, finds obstacles in his way, and then overcomes those obstacles. It’s a fairly simple plot, but Mushanga uses it expertly to frame his holiday film.

Dec 30th
