MCV interviews major MMO CEOs on the Future of MMO
Jan 27th
MCV, a game industry portal focusing on the business side of our favorite pastime, just published an interesting panel discussion among the CEOs and executives of the famous MMO powerhouses. The “suits” (although given how people-oriented and casual gaming industry thrives to be, they can hardly be called that) talked about the Future of the MMO, both the paradigm itself and games currently released and waiting to be launched.
It might be of a special interest to us AOC fans, as Erling Ellingsen, Director of Communications at AOC/FC took part in the discussion and had a lot to say about the future of MMO market, position of ’that three letter word’ every player knows and loathes/fears/loves* (*put a tick next to the current state only please) and what could possibly shake up the industry.
Here’s some of what Erling Ellingsen had to say:
“Predicting the fall of World of Warcraft would be futile. The game has proven to be incredibly resilient against the test of time, not only because it’s a great game but also because it’s turned into somewhat of a pop-cultural phenomenon. [...] I think there is one game that might have a chance of becoming very successful both in More >

Altis Gates Guilds Recruiting for Closed Beta
IGGs latest magical offering, Altis Gates, recently closed the curtains on their short Alpha Test, to much applause. Both the representatives of media sites and the veteran players that were specially invited had a lot of positive feedback for the Altis Gates team. With the AT concluded, their attention is now focused on the Closed Beta test, specifically the big guilds that will provide the intense competition that this new title thrives on.
Guild recruitment has started on January 25th, 2010, EST (GMT-5) and will continue through till February 11th. Throughout this period, the Altis Gates team will be encouraging guild leaders to submit applications for CB activation keys. During the CB itself, all the guilds will be ranked according to the sum of the character levels of all their members. This ranking table will be refreshed every 4 days, and at the end of the CB, the top ranked guilds will be rewarded with some fancy prizes for the Open Beta test.
The rewards for the top 10 guilds will be large Guild Bundles that can be redeemed when the OB starts. Each member of the winning guilds will receive 5 Treasure Maps, 2 Power More >
We have our pony: Invincible revealed
Jan 27th
Guys? We have our pony!
The Warcraft twitter account just linked to a new page on the official World of Warcraft site regarding Invincible. This stallion served Arthas in life as his mount. Unfortunately, Arthas worked his mount a little too hard and slipped on ice. Arthas had no choice but to give Invincible a merciful death. (You can find more details about the story if you’ve read Arthas: Rise of the Lich King by Christie Golden.) When Arthas became the Lich King, he visited Invincible’s grave and raised him from the dead in order to serve him.
How do you get him?
Oh, it’s fairly simple to get. This pony can’t get hungry, tired, or feel pain. Great for a Lich King to use when traveling around, right? All you have to do is pry it from Arthas’ cold, dead hands. Beat Arthas in Icecrown Citadel on heroic mode, and Invincible will serve you.
But we don’t know if everyone in the raid is going to get one (like Ulduar drakes) or if only one mount will drop (akin to killing Sartharion with 3 drakes up or the Mimiron head mount from Yogg-Saron).

No mention of WoW on the Apple iPad
Jan 27th
Obviously today’s news from Apple of the iPad is the hottest thing since, well, the iPhone. One of the big things Apple was showing was the OpenGL 3D games on the iPad. OpenGL is the technology that allows advanced 3D graphics and games to function (DirectX is the Microsoft Windows equivalent, although OpenGL works on Windows too). For a long time people have been clamoring over the ability for WoW to run on an iPhone, and the iPad looks like the ideal touch device to let it run on.
And many of you began writing into us as soon as the iPad announcement was made, asking if we knew about WoW running on the iPad.
The answer is no, we have no information, and there is no indication that WoW will run on the iPad. The armory app should work automatically (as well as all your other iPhone/iPod Touch games), and there is certianly room to make the armory app even better on the iPad — but we don’t even know if such a plan is in the works yet.
The iPad, especially with its dirt cheap data plans for $14.99 and overall cheap starting price of $499, can obviously have an impact More >
Night elf mohawk: Gone!
Jan 27th
Thank goodness!
Anyone else relieved that this funky device is removed from the game? I have to admit, I wasn’t a big fan of the big head look. I’ve been “pitied” many times by random players (and even those in my own guild). Dwarves and mohawks just don’t seem to mix. In any case, Crygil has confirmed that the mohawk grenade will not be around any longer. Ever since the grenade became active on servers back in November, I couldn’t walk around Dalaran without seeing large heads everywhere. Is this the last time we’ll ever see Mr. T plant these grenades in game for players to use?
Somehow, I have a hunch that this won’t be the last time we’ll see mohawks in game.

Llega el guild portal a Allods Online
Jan 27th
