Compromise Reached in Fedmart Security Strike – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Anchauttes – Local residents are feeling relieved today as members of the Anchauttes Security Union returned to work after a compromise was reached between union leaders and management at the Fedmart Retail Center in Anchauttes. The agreement was signed early this morning, less than 24 hours before a Lai Dai fleet is expected to make its first appearance in the system and bring many new Caldari residents.
A spokesman for the Retail Center told reporters, "We’re satisfied with the agreement. We agreed to provide a large amount of upgraded equipment and already have a shipment en route. We met their demands on health benefits and agreed to a notable increase in the number of officers on patrol for the first two months of Lai Dai’s occupation. We are confident that the Fedmart Retail Center will continue to be a safe haven for businessmen from all over New Eden and expect that, especially after this agreement, racial tensions on the station will be kept to a minimum."
Gilbin Doyle, speaking for the Anchauttes Security Union, told reporters that they found the compromise acceptable. Residents are still nervous about the future, but most feel that two months of increased security should be enough More >
Fedmart Security Strike – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Anchauttes – Fourteen security teams left their posts at the Fedmart Retail Center in Anchauttes, and several more have stated their intention to do so tomorrow. Gilbin Doyle, spokesman for the Anchauttes Security Union, explained: "We are understaffed and underpaid. We have substandard equipment and poorly managed dispatch systems. We can’t afford to let this continue. Lai Dai starts moving into our system in less than two weeks, and we’re going to see a notable rise in domestic disturbances and a higher potential for terrorism. Fedmart has not taken these problems into account."
Security details have announced plans to walk off the job on a rotating schedule until Fedmart meets their expectations, including equipment, communications, and health-care improvements as well as a staffing budget increase.
A Fedmart spokesman told reporters, "We’re currently in talks with Anchauttes Security and hope to reach a compromise before Lai Dai starts moving in."
Local resident Darlynee Garmyre told reporters, "They waited until we were most vulnerable, and now we have no choice but to give them what they want or let this place collapse into anarchy." Garmyre had been assaulted during a robbery earlier in the day and claimed to have waited over an hour for an officer More >
Gallente Financial Sector Blasts Foiritan – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Luminaire – A storm of criticism followed the latest Presidential press conference, in which the Administration claimed that its "wait and see" policy toward recent events in Uphallant was both correct and justified. Scope financial analyst Normand LeVard said, "the fact that things didn’t go horribly in Uphallant has less to do with President Foiritan’s actions and more to do with how the Caldari do business." He further called Poksu’s decision to halt the annexation a "happy accident."
This opinion was shared by Bank of Luminaire VP Donelley Desetier. "Lucky for us, the only thing the Caldari mega-corporations dislike more than everyone else is other Caldari mega-corporations. Had Poksu carried through with its plan, it would have set a dangerous precedent." But many feel that the danger is still very real, and that it’s only a matter of time before other aggressive Caldari corporations seek to move into the Federation’s former space.
As a response to this sentiment, the Foiritan Administration continued to reiterate its position. "Had we taken direct, drastic action at the urging of the financial sector, we’d have ended up doing the wrong thing at the wrong time," said a Foiritan press officer, adding that "the President’s approach forestalled More >
Poksu Takeover Halted as Negotiations Fall Through – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Uphallant – After announcing their takeover of Material Acquisition’s operations in the Uphallant system last week, The Poksu Mineral Group has put the entire project on hold. The reversal in position stems from a contract dispute between Poksu and partner Nugoeihuvi.
Originally, Nugoeihuvi was contracted to provide logistical support to Poksu from its stations in the Uphallant system. However, disagreements between Nugoeihuvi and Sukuuvestaa (which owns the controlling interest in Poksu) over which corporation’s paramilitary forces (Internal Security and the Peace and Order Unit, respectively) would have jurisdiction led to Nugoeihuvi withdrawing support for the project.
In light of a lack of in-system support and increased Federal Defence Union activity in the area, Poksu opted to shelve the project. While Poksu press releases stated that the company is still interested in pursuing the matter, it is unclear what concessions would be required to bring Nugoeihuvi back on board.
Gallente Investors Seek Government Guarantees – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Luminaire – As transports carrying Poksu personnel and equipment began arriving in Uphallant, a protest was taking place in Luminaire, with demonstrators calling upon President Foiritan to act decisively to address the situation.
The public has been vocal in its outrage, and voices of dissent have also been heard in the Gallente financial sector, with investors calling on the Foiritan Administration to offer government-backed guarantees on assets annexed by the Caldari. While the administration has not yet responded to these requests, beyond saying that they’re "considering all options," the President has already drawn criticism from a number of directions. Zemla Faudien, a recruiter for the Federal Defence Union, stated, "Any money spent propping up corporate investments would be better spent actually fighting the damn Caldari." Faudien and others feel strongly that the Foiritan government has not done enough to support the military and militia forces.
The hawks among the Gallente were not alone in their criticism of the administration. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior executive at Pend Insurance remarked, "The solution is not securing investments, the solution is providing a climate that is conducive to safe investing." When pressed on what that might entail, the executive replied: "It’s time for More >
Poksu Mineral Group Announces Facility Annexation – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Uphallant – The Poksu Mineral Group announced today that it would take over administration of Material Acquisition’s extraction and refining operations in the Uphallant system. Though the State’s decision to auction off development rights in the occupied systems has been well publicized, this announcement marks the first time that the Caldari have formally annexed existing facilities in the border regions. As part of a negotiated profit-sharing settlement, Poksu personnel and equipment are slated to begin staging out of the Nugoeihuvi stations within the system until occupation of Material Acquisition’s facilities can be implemented.
The move has provoked controversy on both sides of the border. Minedrill has already lodged a complaint with the Caldari Business Tribunal, putting forth a "prior claim" based on a past joint venture with Material Acquisition. Further, if this trend continues, Gallente investors with concerns in the region stand to lose trillions; many are following Material Acquisition’s lead by filing injunctions with the Secure Commerce Commission to stop further takeovers. Finally, Poksu spokeswoman Juunigara Hesaala’s off-hand "to the victor go the spoils" remark during her press conference has angered the Gallente business community. Poksu has since publicly apologized for Ms. Hesaala’s remark, but the resentment continues.

Lai Dai Development Facility Evacuated in Reactor Emergency – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Innia – Over 1,000 Lai Dai scientists and engineers were forced to abandon a deadspace starbase yesterday due to a reactor leak. The starbase crew took refuge in an industrial vessel until they were rescued by a Peace and Order Unit fleet on patrol in the system. Nearly 500 cases of radiation poisoning have been reported among the refugees.
The cause for the reactor leak has not been reported, but according to Lai Dai officials, the starbase passed all security checks. The latest safety inspection was conducted one month ago. Together with the attack at the Black Rise Development Conference and the fire at one of Lai Dai’s research bases, this incident marks the third major security failure suffered by the corporation in as many weeks. An anonymous source within the corporation estimates the value of the research and development lost in these accidents to be nearly 300 million ISK, and potentially tens of times that amount in predicted profits lost.
The Innia starbase is reported as being in a derelict state after having had its reactor core forcibly ejected by a Lai Dai recovery team today. Lai Dai officials have stated that it could take as long as three months to More >
Research Station Up In Flames – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Ylandoki – A science facility belonging to the Lai Dai Corporation was destroyed early this morning when its local safety systems failed to control a fire. The planet-bound base was successfully evacuated without casualties or major injuries. Despite attempts by emergency response teams to extinguish the flames, the facility could not be saved.
The fire is believed to have been ignited by an electrical problem, made worse by several automated fire response systems failing to engage. General warning systems remained functional, and the staff was able to follow their emergency plan and evacuate safely.
Local firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after the first alarm and proceeded to contain the flames, but were unable to prevent the fire from spreading inside the facility. Several hundred of the facility’s staff were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for first- and second-degree burns and smoke inhalation, but all of them are expected to make full recoveries.
"We will be launching an investigation into these events," says Eskki Dourhen, a member of Lai Dai’s Internal Security division assigned to the facility. When asked by reporters from a local news agency, Mr. Dourhen said that Lai Dai "cannot ignore the possibility of sabotage", and that More >
Lai Dai Conference Suffers Electromagnetic Attack – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Kinakka – The Black Rise Development Conference was the target of a widespread electromagnetic pulse last night, causing a number of casualties and an estimated 1.4 million of ISK in damages. No fatalities have been reported, but the pulse caused unshielded cybernetic devices to fail, resulting in 23 individuals being sent to intensive care units and an additional 213 requiring extensive repairs to implants and prosthetics.
The source of the pulse has been traced to a number of synchronized warheads placed around the station, having been smuggled in by unknown means. In light of this breach of security, Lai Dai has suffered harsh criticism. "It’s unforgivable to put so many people at risk," says Genkarhaadan Nineven, part of a group of visitors from the Sukuuvestaa Corporation. "Lai Dai promised us safety but completely failed to protect us from this. At least we can be thankful it was nothing even more dangerous."
The attack not only caused damage to cybernetic components, but also wiped numerous data networks on the station. Reports say that several laboratories and assembly arrays belonging to Lai Dai were put out of commission in the attack, including a catastrophic Planck bubble failure in one lab that was fortunately unmanned More >
Development Conference Attracts Pioneers, Public – news from EvE
Nov 25th
Kinakka – The Lai Dai Corporation’s Black Rise Development Conference opened its doors today, welcoming thousands of visitors to see several miles of booths displaying prototypes, technology demonstrations and grand plans.
Among the most popular displays were the Zero-G Research Firm’s full-scale model of a next-generation orbital habitat – planned for prototype deployment before the end of the year – and a digital link to an experimental deadspace garden module by the Kaalakiota and Caldari Provisions.
The Lai Dai Corporation and its subsidiaries had a number of small displays of upcoming releases – among them a new series of low-maintenance atmospheric craft dubbed "Snipe", designed to be used by small colonies. In general, the Lai Dai presence has been small compared to other corporations, but rumors suggest that the megacorp is holding off on a big revelation.
"There has been talk for weeks of Lai Dai preparing something big. I’ve heard that their Storage Research team is here in Kinakka, ready to reveal a prototype," says Ulekkan Vindele, a hangar-floor manager for a capsuleer corporation. "Of what, I can’t say."
Despite the mystery surrounding Lai Dai’s own projects, it is clear that their goals for the conference are being met. Hundreds of projects opened More >
