Guild Wars 2: An Audio Field Trip
Oct 21st
The Guild Wars 2 blog contains a fresh new post penned by James Ackley and discusses a recent 'field trip' that the audio team took to a nearby nuclear power plant to record sounds for the game. The blog post comes with some informative text and a great video of the experience.
Our main objective of the day was to get impulse responses to use later as big and very different reverbs. The idea of an impulse response is pretty simple: you make noise (a hand clap, starter pistol, tone sweeps) in an appropriate environment, record it, then use software to recreate that space in a reverb plug-in so you can get that specific reverb back whenever you want. It’s pretty fun and amazingly accurate these days. We had some big PA speakers hooked up, and we also brought a lot of random sounds to blast out in these spaces and “re-record” as well.
Guild Wars 2: All About the Grawl
Oct 14th
The Grawl were one of the most prolific monsters in the original Guild Wars and will be making a reappearance in Guild Wars 2. A new blog post detailing the Grawl race has cropped up on the Arena.Net blog.
The article goes into detail about the Grawl society & biology, clothing & equipment, the race history & religion and a small peek behind the scenes of the race.
It's a fun read about one of the monsters that Guild Wars 2 players will face off against when the game debuts.
Read it all on the Guild Wars 2 blog.
Guild Wars 2: Keeping the Game Solid
Oct 10th
In his latest Guild Wars 2 column, MMORPG.com's David North divines the future for the game and how he believes the developers can keep the game solid for players when it comes to content and patch updates. Check out what David has to say and then let us know how you think the GW2 team can 'keep the game solid' as its future rolls on in the comments.
When a game gets a major update it is either a large patch or an expansion that comes with a lot more content, which means new enemies. In the original Guild Wars campaigns, the story took place in different parts of the world, each with its own environment and new enemies. There were a few types of creatures that would be seen in multiple campaigns, but in many games they will just take a good bit of old creatures and change their color scheme, add a new thing or two to the model and call it new content. This is unacceptable in my opinion.

More >Guild Wars 2: Eurogamer Expo and PvE
Oct 10th
Yesterday, MMORPG.com's Ross McDermott reported on his initial experiences with the Guild Wars 2 PvP feature during last week's Eurogamer Expo. In today's report, Ross takes a look at the PvE side of the game. Check out what Ross has to say about adventuring in Tyria then leave us a few comments when finished.
Back to the action, and I was thrown knee-deep into the maw of madness. I alongside other players rushed about, shooting what appeared to be Charr and all sorts of elemental monstrosities. The event culminated with a battle with a pair of overgrown mud-paws who seemed to be holding farm equipment hostage, likely in exchange for mud-gloves for the mud-paws. I'm not sure, there may have been greater depth to the scenario but I couldn't find it. Elementals are usually vicious and nonsensically violent with their intentions regardless of whatever game you find them in. They just hate the living so much.

Guild Wars 2: Eurogamer Expo and PVP
Oct 9th
During the recently held Eurogamer Expo, MMORPG.com's own Ross McDermott took time out from his EVE Online empire to check it out. He had the opportunity to get his hands on the Guild Wars 2 demo and to take a look at PvP. Check out Ross's thoughts about the Eurogamer Expo, PvP and Guild Wars 2. Let us know your impressions in the comments.
Right away myself and my associate Velyks set about scanning-down and locating the Guild Wars 2 play areas. When stepping into the building a giant banner read 'Play Guild Wars 2 here!' and even though we wandered around it in circles, for the life of us we couldn't find them. We wandered aimlessly for several minutes before, somewhere at the back of the hall; we saw the elegant, creative Guild Wars 2 logo summon us from our daze. Eagerly like school children we skipped, merry as poppets through the crowds, delightfully trouncing other gamers in our wake, standing on feet and making merry in the mayhem.

Guild Wars 2: Closed Beta Before the End of the Year
Oct 6th
Arena.Net's Colin Johanson has revealed (again) that the closed beta for Guild Wars 2 will likely kick off before the end of 2011.
According to an interview at NOWGamer.com, Johanson indicated that the open beta has a fluid start date that will be based on results of the closed beta. In its turn, the open beta's results will determine the final retail release date of the game.
Another interesting nugget from the interview comes when Johanson, talking about PvP, states that the team wants it to be "taken as seriously as any FPS online or RTS competitive game.’ We want to be number one." Johanson also threw out the possibility of some sort of competitive "expo" for PvP players.

Guild Wars 2: The Asura from a Bookah?s View
Sep 25th
A couple of weeks ago, the Guild Wars 2 team revealed much more information about the tiny guys of the game, the Asura. In today's Guild Wars 2 column, MMORPG.com's David North takes a look at the Asura and how the dev team came to the 'look'. Check out David's thoughts and then add a few of your own in the comments.
The race-themed weeks ArenaNet has been giving us have been a real treat. They gave us some additional insight into the different races, allowing us players to fine tune our plans to create our characters. I for one will be playing a Charr as my main, but I plan to have a few alts, as any self-respecting MMOer might. One of them I plan to play is an Asura, which is the topic of the day. His name will be Amuro. He rides in a golem he calls Gundam. It will be awesome. Mark my words.

Guild Wars 2: Writing the Snarky Little Geniuses
Sep 14th
In the latest article specific to Asura Week, Guild Wars 2 design team member Angel Leigh McCoy talks about the challenges, and the fun, of writing what she calls the "snarky little geniuses".
McCoy outlines several key areas that the team worked very hard on when it came to fleshing out the Asura including:
- Techno-babble
- Concentrated Magnificence
- Snark and more snark!
- Interconnectivity
- Heroism
The blog post is also liberally sprinkled with Asura sound bites that give an aural representation of each of those topics. They are definitely must-hear snippets!
