Lineage 2: Gracia Update Allows Faster Leveling
Jul 15th
NCsoft has announced several changes to Lineage II with the upcoming Gracia update, which include the introduction of the Vitality System, and efforts to reduce ’the grind’ and entry barriers to new players by allowing players to level faster.
One of our greatest assets is our fantastic group of players, who are a very dedicated, hardcore bunch that spend a lot of time and effort building up their characters and battling each other in big player vs. player (PvP) fights like castle sieges. However, the process of building and leveling characters can be a very long and frankly tedious process in Lineage II, which may serve as a barrier for letting a much larger group of potential customers to fully enjoy our game. While in the past the developers in Korea have continually built the game with this hardcore mentality firmly set, with the release of Gracia, they’ve completely changed the rules and made Lineage II even better and a lot more fun.
The big change is that leveling a Lineage II character is now extremely easier—and we say “extremely” in a fairly conservative manner. A normal new character that goes through the beginning quests can gain a few levels in just More >
Lineage 2: North American Server Merges
Jun 17th
NCsoft has announced that they will be merging several of Lineage II’s North American servers because of earlier migrations to higher population servers from servers which already had relatively low populations.
Since we opened server transfers in February this year, we’ve all seen a noticeable shift in what servers the Lineage II population is playing on. Many players transferred from lower population servers to higher population servers in the name of greater competition, which is in essence what Lineage II is about. This has left us with a few servers with low enough populations that the communities on those servers have expressed their concern.
After looking at the servers, we agree that some changes need to be made to help us maintain the very highest quality Lineage II experience for all of our players. As such, we will be combining a few of our North American servers in early July. With the exciting changes coming in the next Chaotic Throne installment (which we plan to launch later this summer), we believe that merging some servers now will create an even more active, competitive Lineage II community.
We aim to make this as smooth and painless a transition as possible for our players and feel this will balance More >

Lineage 2: Hellbound Pet System Enhancements
Apr 17th
The good folks over at Lineage II have provided us with this dev diary concerning the pet system enhancements that are coming with the Hellbound expansion due later this month.
Lineage II players absolutely love their pets. They are useful companions in the lands of Aden, able to conduct a varied series of attacks, use special skills, and more, all in aid of the player. In addition, pets can go through a series of evolutions, earning new abilities and becoming much more powerful with each step. Pets only have a few downsides—they lose some experience upon death and must consume a quantity of food before they grow hungry and ineffective, but overall to players they are a boon.
Since Chronicle 2 we’ve been slowly improving the pet system, added a new type of pet here, a new layer of evolution there. With the release of Hellbound we’ve expanded the pet system even more, with benefits that will help most players in one way or another. Those that have a Wolf as a pet can evolve it normally into a Great Wolf once it gets to level 55, and then further evolve it into a Fenrir if it’s above level 70. The Fenrir More >
Lineage 2: Hellbounds Steel Citadel
Apr 7th
NCsoft recently prepared this non-exclusive dev journal which provides an overview of the Steel Citadel in Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne – The Kamael: Hellbound. Inside the dangerous Steel Citadel, players will need to take advantage of the new level 85 level cap to battle against the epic boss Beleth.
Since the introduction of the high-level grounds called Hellbound in The Kamael, adventurers have been seeking a way into the deadly Steel Citadel and battle the epic boss Beleth himself. Now with the new update they have the chance they’ve been waiting for. After earning an extremely high level of trust from the Hellbound natives, adventurers will soon learn from them how to gain access into the Steel Citadel and the riches within—if they dare. In fact, players should make sure their characters hit the new level cap (Level 85) before going in.
The task in store for adventurers to reach Beleth is not easy. The Steel Citadel itself is composed of four separate areas or “towers,” which need to be conquered one at a time before moving on to the next. Adventurers will start in the two-story Base Tower, featuring a labyrinthine first floor that features many rapidly spawning creatures, and More >
