Runescape: Behind the Scenes: January Update
Jan 7th
The folks at Runescape have posted the January edition of their behind the scenes articles where they detail what’s in store for the rest of the month. In this update they talk about the Phoenix summoning familiar, re-ordering spell lists, and more.
A new year often brings with it a sense of change or new adventure. For some, this rebirth is a nice, friendly affair, involving a new haircut and a resolution or two. For others, it means complex nesting rituals and a fiery demise…or perhaps a new beginning? Could we be talking about the legendary phoenix?
Our first update of the year is actually one we have been talking about for a while – the new Summoning familiar you voted for during the Summer. Of course, we could have just produced a simple Summoning creature to follow you around and do the occasional funky trick, but we decided that a legendary creature such as the phoenix deserved the full treatment. So, it will have its own tutorial-style quest, in which you learn how to deal with the unusual nesting habits of the giant, fire-drenched beast, AND a repeatable challenge you can take on every day, should you wish.

More >Runescape: 2009: Year of the Upgrade
Jan 6th
The folks at Runescape have revealed their plans for what 2009 will have in store for the game, saying that this year they will be focusing on fixing minor problems and making small improvements rather than working on flashy expansions or new game systems.
So, the first post of the New Year and you’ll be wondering what the next 12 months in RuneScape will bring. The past year saw the introduction of PvP Worlds, RuneScape High Detail, Summoning, our first Grandmaster quest, combat minigames, and Distractions and Diversions. What can we do to top 2008?
Well, this is the challenge that we’ve set ourselves: 2009 has become our official Upgrade Year! So, what does that mean? It means our New Year’s resolution is to tweak and polish what we’ve already got in the game alongside creating new content. For example:
- Doing the ’little’ jobs that make a big difference (e.g. a ’You are here’ arrow on the world map) and basically fixing all the annoying little quirks the game has. Things that may be the least glamorous to work on and talk about, but which really add up.
- Updating some of the earliest content/quests to bring it up to date, and take advantage of More >

Runescape: Avoiding Scammers
Dec 22nd
MMORPG.com Runescape Correspondent Fasail Baig has written this informative piece letting the game’s players know how to avoid being the victim of a scam in-game.
Do you ever get the feeling that you are being cheated out of your money? Have you ever thought a deal was too good to be true? If you have, it probably is. Scamming is a big problem in the Runescape world. Greedy and lazy players will usually do anything to get money without actually doing any work. Don’t be fooled by high levels acting nice. For almost all of us we have been scammed at least once, and if you haven’t been yet – give it time. This guide will tell you how to avoid some of the common Runescape scams. First off, never rush trades. Scammers will always try to rush through the trading screens so that an inexperienced player will miss some very important points. Take your time check both screens. Whenever you make a trade for gold, always keep a few things in mind. When you sell something for, let’s say 20k, which is 20,000gp it should say 20k as the trade window (20,000 gold). Runescape: Avoiding and Resolving Account Issues
Dec 19th
MMORPG.com Correspondent Faisal Baig writes this article on avoiding and dealing with account disputes in Jagex’s MMORPG, Runescape
We’ve all been here before, or will be here eventually. There comes a time in most players’ lives, that they receive a black mark, a mute, or even a permanent ban. While this may be the player’s fault, or someone else on the character, Jagex needs to know. This simple guide goes through the different scenarios of a ban, and how to appeal Jagex’s descisions. With it, you will hopefully be able to recover your account from sure doom and be able to play like a good citizen once again. It shall cover all cases of appealing bans, from apology to evidence.

Runescape: Loot Improvements on PvP Worlds
Dec 10th
The folks at Runescape have announced improvements to the way drops are decided in PvP worlds, with an overall result of more worthwhile loot.
This week, we have made some improvements to the amount of loot you can gain while fighting other players on PvP worlds.
We have noticed that many players on PvP worlds choose to leave some of their drops on the ground, rather than pick them up or bank them. This is because the drops are often too low in value to justify picking them up. We have, therefore, implemented two changes to the way drops work on PvP worlds:
1) Drops are now slightly more weighted towards a few, higher-value drops, rather than lots of low- or medium-value ones.
2) Overall, we have made the drops a bit more generous.
