Warhammer Online News
Last week, Wayback Wednesday revisited Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning with the Mythic crew including Keaven Freeman, Kevin Calvert, and Tim Chappell. Check out their epic adventures in WAR. WAAAGGGHHH!
WAR is based on the Warhammer fantasy IP from Games Workshop. WAR pits the armies of Order versus the armies of Destruction and is a realm versus realm focused game; however, WAR also contains your standard fantasy genre MMO tropes. While WAR is one of the middle aged MMOs on the market it has made two rather important contributions to the genre that have been central to a number of recent MMO releases.

A public quest.
Warhammer Online has been maturing nicely over the years since its release. We took the opportunity to find out what's been going on and what the future holds for Mythic's game. We spoke with Lead Designer Keaven Freeman to find out. Read on and then head to the comments to chat it up.
MMORPG: It’s been a long time since we last chatted, Keaven. How go things on WAR? The title seems to have settled in with a dedicated hardcore group of fans.
KEAVEN: Overall, things are going great! I have always personally felt WAR was destined to be for the dedicated hardcore group we have now. I couldn’t be happier that we have such a close, and active, group of players.

- We’ve added additional information on the current status of the Relic and Fortress ownership to the game.
- The Advanced War Report window will now show this expanded information in a convenient window. This includes the current location of the Relic, Claim status for the Fortress and sub-areas, etc.
- The Advanced War Report can be accessed via the /adwar command or via a new icon on the mini-map.
- The Fortress Generals have been moved around in the Fortress to make defense more strategic.
- There are now magical barriers up near the Fortress Guardian that will stay up until the guardian has been defeated. Once defeated, the barriers will drop until a reinforcement Guardian appears.

With our feet firmly planted in the new year, a new patch out the door, the live event active on the servers, and our thoughts on the future, it seems a good time to take a moment to detail some of those thoughts and plans for Warhammer Online in an open letter to the community.
Our most immediate plans revolve around evolution of our current patch. Version 1.4.5 introduced the concepts of Relics to Open RvR in Tier 4 as well as the reintegration of the Fortresses. After a few weeks of testing on PTS, which included quite a number of hosted test events, we were able to take some of the feedback and get it up with the patch. However, there were other good suggestions and tweaks that came out of that testing directly or indirectly which couldn’t make it into version 1.4.5; we want to get them done and introduce them as soon as we can. To that end, we are currently working on 1.4.5a, an interim patch that will add some functionality, messaging, and tweaks to the fortresses and relics. There are active discussions about what is involved specifically in this patch over on the Dev Discussion More >

The Warhammer Online Herald has been updated with the news that the annual Night of Murder event has made its return. The event is scheduled to run from February 9th through the 22nd and features special quests and rewards.
Players pick up the "Marked for Death" quest in every warcamp, scenario, and capital city. They are also asked to keep an eye out for those NPCs and enemy faction players who are marked for death and to kill them when seen. Players can also be the ones marked and should be on the watch for killers in their midst.
- Basic – Butcher's Blessing (+10% xp/renown/damage/incoming healing) and lasts for 3 in-game days
- Advanced – Well-Mounted Skull (Places a pike next to the body of a fallen foe, topped with their head.)
- Elite – Khaine's Caress (event-slot item with career specific stats)
- World Drop – Lobbin' Noggin & Burning Blood Potion
Find out more on the Warhammer Online Herald.
“As darkness falls on the Night of Murder, the worshipers of death bathe the land in blood, all intent on proving their devotion to the Elf god Kaela Mensha Khaine. It is a time that the forces of Destruction are all too willing to exploit. Assassins infiltrate the cities, while on the battlefield the differences between Good and Evil fade beneath the crimson haze of blood lust. None are immune to the will of Khaine during this dark holiday.”
During the Night of Murder, players will receive event credit by completing tome tasks which include participating in the “Marked for Death” quest given out by Witch Elves and Witch Hunters located in every warcamp, scenario, and capital city. Keep an eye out for members of the enemy realm who have been “marked for death” and kill these players and NPC’s to reap the rewards of the Night of Murder! But beware… unbeknownst to you and your realm mates, you too may be chosen as sacrifice.

To address an issue with the way players get to contested cities the following fix was applied:
- While the Cities are contested, there is now a Portal available to teleport players closer to the city and a return-trip Portal to teleport players back. These are located in the Fortress zones, near the spawn location of the attacking Realm’s siege equipment. The return-trip Portal is near the gates and both portals will disappear when the City is no longer contested.
Update 11:15am EST: The maintenance is complete.
We will bring down the Account Center for a maintenance today, Monday February 6th, at 10am EST (16:00 CET). During the maintenance you will not be able to change subscription, redeem game codes or transfer characters.
