EVE Online: Mapping the Future
EVE players have a lot to look forward to judging by the information released in a new developer blog by CCP Zulu, the new senior producer. Zulu specifically writes to clarify information and rumors that came out of the recent meeting between devs and the Council of Stellar Management.
Zulu begins with Incarna. The Incarna team will swell to over ninety developers by mid-August and will be working hard to bring full body avatars to EVE players. Zulu acknowledges that some folks have stayed away from the game simply because the identification of one's personna is currently ship-based rather than avatar based. This, he says, is going to change with Incarna.
The next item on the table is CCP's MMO-FPS hybrid:
We‘re also committed to producing and launching an MMOFPS hybrid. What we‘re doing is unheard of in the gaming industry, namely linking together a console FPS (MMOFPS) with a classic PC MMORPG. Let that sink in for a minute. CCP is the first company in the world to do something like this. First. Ever. The „resource cost" on the EVE side for that is a team continuing on development of the Planetary Interaction feature (the primary link between the two) for the next three releases, delivering immediate, meaningful value into EVE Online and making game development history while they‘re at it.
Zulu then takes a few paragraphs to discuss EVE Gate and the teams working on in space features as well. Lastly, Zulu talks about his perceptions regarding last month's meeting with the CSM. His feeling is that the meeting was productive and not nearly as tense as some have written.
