After speaking with Lead Producer Chris Hager, MMORPG.com’s Joe Iuliani writes this overview of the massive 1.9 update recently announced by NCsoft for Aion.

Aion was one of the bigger releases of 2009 and as with any big release there comes the myriad of complaints. Well folks, your complaints have been heard as the game closes in on its six month anniversary.

Aion is planning a major update; Update 1.9 which I have been informed boasts 26 pages of patch notes. Both the English and Korean translations of the patch notes will be released simultaneously. The developers’ theory is that this allows players to be informed directly through Aion themselves rather than allowing one set of notes to be released then having pages translated through an online service that could lead to some incorrect data.

Thanks to one crazy community manager that likes to tease information, we’ve gotten a sneak peek at the upcoming patch information for Aion — patch 1.9.

The patch is hosting a wealth of enhancements and updates to the game that includes a new looking for group system, quest updates, a brand new daily quest system, changes to the endgame dungeon Dredgion, a decrease in transportation and soul healing prices, increased experience gain, a two-handed weapon merge system, and much more. The whole thing actually totals over 26 pages of patch notes which NCsoft West are still translating for Western audiences.

Tomorrow, however, we’ve got a special look into some of the deeper mechanics of the patch, so be sure to come back and visit us at 11 AM Eastern time for all of the gritty details (as we need to be all hush hush until then.) The important meeting about Aion future plan is now being bold NCsoft’s Korean headquarters with a press conference with over 60 invited journalists taking place at the same time. It’s confirmed that the level cap will be raised to 55 in V2.0, and the pets only for spectator (used to be shown in the vision trailer) will be added to V2.0. Aion 1.9 would be on the Korea test server tomorrow morning if everything goes on well. Aion 1.9 is supposed to be updated by the middle of March. Just one thing unconfirmed right now is that whether Aion 1.9 on March is only available to Korea players.

A message came from a Korean forum that an NCsoft engineer leaked some information on the legendary new instance for Aion 2.0.

According to him, the new instance has been specially designed for fun and the importance of Abyss and PVP is paid attention to, as well.

The new legion instance will further aggravate the conflict between Elyos and Asmodians.

However, this time the NCsoft engineer hasn’t revealed more details about the upcoming 24-man legion instance, and the previous info related to battlefields on the ground hasn’t been involved, either.

His general idea is as follows:

The level cap of Aion 2.0 will be raised to Level 55 and the newly added instance is a 24-man Legion one. However, it doesn’t mean that all instance participants must belong to a legion, but they must complete an epic quest together with players from the same race before entering this instance.
