Runescape: The Chosen Commander
Mar 17th
The folks at Runescape have posted a look at the final mission in a long running quest series, recapping previous events and guiding players to the final chapter.
Ever since Dorgesh-Kaan made contact with the surface, the cave goblin adventurer Zanik has helped to defend the city from Sigmund’s villainous plots. Now Zanik has disappeared, her fate and whereabouts unknown, and Dorgesh-Kaan is more vulnerable than ever.
Captain Undak of the Dorgeshuun guard is responsible for the city’s defences, and he needs your help to investigate a possible HAM attack – but this will only be the start of your adventure. The mystery of Zanik’s disappearance will be resolved, and the truth behind a goblin prophecy will be revealed, as events move inexorably towards the realisation of Zanik’s destiny. Your adventures will include the discovery of a new Agility course, learning more about the history of the Dorgeshuun, and uncovering the plots of the Big High War God.

Runescape: More Answers from the Devs
Mar 9th
A month ago the folks at Runescape called on the community for their questions and feedback about the game. Now they’ve posted the latest round of responses to those questions.
Q) Dark armor14 – Are you planning on making any more changes to Summoning? I would really like to see more popular combat places like the lesser pit in Karamja Volcano, Brimhaven Dungeon and other single-way combat areas open to familiars, as I feel the combat aspect of the skill is grossly neglected.
A) Paul – I’d also love to see the combat familiars able to be used in more areas. Allowing familiars to fight in a single-way area has some technical difficulties, though. Switching some areas from single-way combat to multicombat is a possibility, but would have a bunch of other gameplay side-effects such as making the areas more dangerous. Since Summoning, most of the new monster training areas are multicombat training areas that are suitable for bringing familiars. We plan to continue in this vein and add more such training areas.
Mod Mark – That will also include adding new and interesting ways of getting charms, like the recent Soul Wars minigame.
Q) Acejesse13 – Most of the skills end at lower More >
Runescape: Agility Overview
Mar 4th
MMORPG.com Runescape Correspondent Faisal Baig writes this article outlining the Agility skill in the popular old-school MMO.
Many people play RuneScape without actually realizing all that you can do in it. The first step is to learn about all of the different skills you can train and practice. Many of the skills will help you have a bigger range of ways to make money. Each time you practice a skill you will gain experience or p and when you reach a certain amount of experience, you’ll gain a level in that skill. The total amount of experience required to obtain the next level is the same for each skill, for the most part. The problem many encounter is that there aren’t any fun skills in non-members worlds, but rather in members. You can get past this problem if you learn to utilize the skills in the right way. The best way to start is by finding out what each skill’s primary role is! For my next few articles, I will be going in depth on all or most of the skills.

Runescape: Random Event Rework Complete
Feb 25th
The folks at Runescape have announced that they have completed their overhaul of the game’s random event system.
We have just completed a comprehensive rework of the random events system that will bring changes for members and non-members alike. We’ve retired some of the older random events from active service, overhauled others, and rewritten the rewards for almost every surviving event. We’ve also changed the rate at which you get random events, and made it possible for all players to get all the events even if they don’t do the activities that are typically associated with them. So maybe you’ll get to meet Cap’n Arnav or the Bee-keeper for the first time…
When you successfully complete a random event you will now be given a random event gift box, which will contain a selection of rewards to choose from. The reward options are randomised, but players with higher skill totals will generally be offered better rewards, especially if they have a record of passing random events. Any frog tokens you have will be replaced automatically with random event gift boxes, and your broken axes and pickaxes will be automatically repaired (unless you’ve only got the handle, in which case they’ll be deleted).

Runescape: Questions and Answers
Feb 17th
Last week Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard opened a dialog with Runescape players about past choices and the future of the game and company. They called out for player input and the players responded. Today they’ve posted the first 130 questions and answers with the promise of more to come.
Many of you will have read my newspost last week, in which I outlined our vision for the future of RuneScape, and also invited your questions. Well, the response has been absolutely awesome; in fact we’ve actually been a little taken aback! There have been nearly ten thousand questions posted or emailed by you, our players, and it’s become pretty obvious that we’re going to need to answer a lot more than we originally planned.
A lot of the questions concern areas in which I’m not the best person to reply, to be quite honest. So what we’ve done is split them up, with me answering a selection of appropriate questions today, and my esteemed colleagues answering further questions over the next few weeks.
A big thank you to everyone that took the time to post a question on the forum or email it in – your feedback and interest in RuneScape are much More >
Runescape: CEO Apologizes for Annoying Ads, More
Feb 11th
Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard has posted a letter to the Runescape community where he talks about changes in how the company will communicate with players and apologizes for annoying video ads that played before the game started, and for propagating misconceptions about the game’s free version and perceived kid focus.
Hi Everyone,
I’d like to introduce myself to you all. My name is Mark Gerhard and I am the new CEO of Jagex, the makers of RuneScape. I have been fortunate enough to have worked at Jagex for some time now and consider us to be first and foremost a games developer. We’re driven by teams that not only care passionately about games but also actively enjoy playing the games we create. We are going to be making a number of improvements to the game, I’m also keen to clear up a few misconceptions about RuneScape at the same time and I also believe there are a few things we have done wrong in the past that I want to apologise for.
To start off with, we want to be more open and listen to our players. Some of you may consider Jagex a secretive and closed-off company which isn’t how we want More >
Runescape: Behind the Scenes: February
Feb 6th
The folks at Runscape have posted their February Behind the Scenes update, detailing their plans to get rid of some of the old random events and add some new ones, a new mini-game, and more.
This month we welcome a few new faces to RuneScape’s “who’s who” list in the form of giant Slayer beasts. These avatars just happen to be the main focus of our new safe, conflict minigame…Soul Wars! We will also be waving goodbye to a few of our old random events, adding a new feature that will let you sort your quests, building price-checking inventory options for your items, and adding a new distraction and diversion (whose bark is far worse than his bite).
Soul Wars
On the deepest, darkest, most mysterious of our backwater islands, an eternal struggle rages, unknown to the residents of RuneScape until now. Structured much like Castle Wars, this will be a “quick to access, tough to master” conflict-based minigame. The avatars of Destruction and Creation vie for control of the Soul Obelisk, an ancient and powerful artefact used to harvest the souls of the weak and unready. Get ready to grab your blade, staff or bow and battle through Slayer creatures, collecting fragments More >
Runescape: Magic Interface Additions
Jan 27th
Continuing their year of the upgrade, the folks at Runescape have posted about a number of minor but helpful changes to the magic interface as well as a few other modifications.
Have you ever wanted to teleport to a location you haven’t been to for a while, only to find yourself looking through every icon to find the one you need? Our latest upgrade will put an end to this. The magic interface has a new feature that will enable you arrange your spells by category, and display either combat spells or teleport spells at the top of the interface. The default order will be the current, level-based one. This applies to all magic spell books.
The "you are here" button will now mark where you are on the world map, which you can open by clicking on the globe next to the minimap in the top-right-hand corner. This should make it easier for you to plan your journeys, as you’ll have a much clearer idea of your starting point.

Runescape: Year of the Upgrade: It Begins
Jan 14th
The folks behind Runscape had previously announced this year as the year of the upgrade, meaning they would be focusing less of flashy additions and more on fixing less glamorous bugs and systems. In that spirit, they kick off the year of the upgrade with a logout timer increase, chat filter tweaks, and more.
With this update we officially launch the RuneScape Upgrade Year! Today, we are bringing you three changes to different parts of the game.
Firstly, the logout timer has been increased from ninety seconds to five minutes. This means that you will not be automatically logged out before this amount of time has passed – particularly useful when you want to check the forums or the Game Guide while training combat or chopping down trees. The only exception to this is if you lose connection; if this happens, you will be automatically logged out after 30 seconds as usual (or after 60 seconds if you lose connection during combat). Make sure you stay on the watch for random events, and for other players who want to talk to you.

Runescape: Behind the Scenes: January Update
Jan 7th
The folks at Runescape have posted the January edition of their behind the scenes articles where they detail what’s in store for the rest of the month. In this update they talk about the Phoenix summoning familiar, re-ordering spell lists, and more.
A new year often brings with it a sense of change or new adventure. For some, this rebirth is a nice, friendly affair, involving a new haircut and a resolution or two. For others, it means complex nesting rituals and a fiery demise…or perhaps a new beginning? Could we be talking about the legendary phoenix?
Our first update of the year is actually one we have been talking about for a while – the new Summoning familiar you voted for during the Summer. Of course, we could have just produced a simple Summoning creature to follow you around and do the occasional funky trick, but we decided that a legendary creature such as the phoenix deserved the full treatment. So, it will have its own tutorial-style quest, in which you learn how to deal with the unusual nesting habits of the giant, fire-drenched beast, AND a repeatable challenge you can take on every day, should you wish.
