Artificer Developer Q&A – DDO: Eberron Unlimited
Sep 9th
Anxious to get an inside look at developing DDO Unlimited’s newest class, the artificer? In this artificer-focused Q&A Dev Diary, Lead Game Systems Designer Steve Muray and Web Content Developer Kyle Horner discuss things like homunculus dogs, “pew pew” and crab hands. Oh, and there’s also information about artificer development, too.
Kyle Horner: When the team began development on the artificer class, what was your goal?
Steve Muray: The artificer was always intended to be a hybrid class, but we also wanted one inherently good at non-spellcasting ranged combat. We also wanted the class to have competent DPS (damage per second). Of course, artificer DPS isn’t as high as barbarian, but artificers make up for that with support spells and construct healing.
We pitched our thoughts on the directions we were considering to WotC and they sent back some fantastic concept art. There was one of an artificer with leather straps covered with magic scrolls and vials — almost exactly what you see in the character generator now. Later on, the Rune Arm took form when they sent us a picture of an artificer charging up his magical bracer, getting ready to blast us with arcane power.
Kyle: It looks great, too. Good call.
Steve: Yeah, and the Rune Arm More >
Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited: The Shard Axe Released
Sep 7th
The first novel based on Turbine's Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited has been released. Called The Shard Axe, the novel was written by Marsheila Rockwell.
The book is selling for $6.99 and a sample chapter can be found on the Dungeons & Dragons page at Wizards of the Coast.
Sentinel Marshal Sabira d’Deneith has spent the last eight years trying to drown the memories of the mission that cost her partner his life and gave her the nickname, the Shard Axe. But all the old memories come flooding back when she’s recalled from the city of Stormreach to carry out a mission on House Deneith’s behalf—to protect and defend the heir of the dwarven city of Frostmantle during his murder trial. The same heir she and her partner guarded eight years ago in the same city—from the same style of murders.
