Visually Impaired Gamer Sues Sony Online Entertainment

Last month, disabled gamer Alexander Stern filed suit against Sony, Sony Online Entertainment, and Sony Computer Entertainment America in the United States District Court for the Central District of California requesting accessibility features in game. The suit alleges that Sony is violating the Americans with Disabilities Act by failing to implement features to make its games accessible to visually impaired gamers.
Unlike gamer Brandon Cole, who got THQ’s letter back thanking his letter suggesting changes to make Smackdown series of WWE wrestling games more accessible to the blind. Stern was perplexed with the poor navigation system in Sony’s game and SOE even acted like a blind one who can not see repeated requests through postal mail and e-mail to come up with reasonable modifications to its games to make them more accessible. May this suit specifiy the ways in which other companies have made their games accessible.
Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is a game development and game publishing division of Sony that is best known for creating massively multiplayer online games, including EverQuest, EverQuest II, The Matrix Online, PlanetSide, Star Wars More >
EverQuest II: A Noob’s Look at EQII
Nov 5th
MMORPG.com writer Chris Higgins takes a look at the first 20 levels in SOE’s classic MMORPG EverQuest II, focusing in on the game as someone completely unfamiliar with the EverQuest franchise.
Having never played either Everquest or Everquest 2, I decided to try this game and see how I liked it compared to other games on the market. I am not going to focus on the end game, but will instead focus my attention on the first 20 levels, more than enough for a new player to decide whether he or she likes the game over their first few weeks of play.
I logged into Everquest 2 and was presented with the character creation screen. You first have to select the race for your character. There are good, bad, and neutral races which consist of all your standard races from legends and lore. There are also a few in there that I had never seen before: a Frog race called the Frogloks, a rat race called Ratongas and others.

EverQuest II: Ratonga Rat Race
Oct 13th
SOE will be hosting a "Norrathian Rat Race" in EverQuest II every day from today, October 13th, through November 6th, 2009.
In order to participate, players will need to create a Level 1 Ratonga on their server of choice, and then meet up at Hate’s Envy on the time and date scheduled for their particular server. Once there, players will compete in a race through Norrath to gather items outlined in a provided list. The players who finish fastest will be treated to an as of yet unspecified reward. For the slowpokes, a prize will be awarded for simply showing up.

EverQuest II: GU 52 Lore: A Rime of War
Jun 4th
The folks at EverQuest II have revealed new lore behind the game’s upcoming Game Update 52.
A Rime of War A dirge’s personal tale by Elna Tsernin
The waves rocking this vessel as we cross the Timorous Deep should be lulling me into a deep sleep, instead I find myself examining my actions and the tide of events that swept me here. I had been a successful dirge, and a beautiful one at that, I had always been proud of my unblemished scales and frills. A young Iksar blessed with talent beyond her years known throughout the Sebilisian Empire. I had been entertaining barons and officers with the same old collection of historical songs and tales of the Iksar nation for years; from Sebilis to Jinisk, Torsis to Charasis. When I had grown tired of those tales I looked toward the rest of Kunark. Over the next several years I trekked from one end of our isolated continent to the other learning tales of other societies and their myths. My native tongue was Sebilisian, like anyone born within the empire, but I learned enough common in these years in order to unlock stories from other cultures. But I was still young. A few More >
