Eve University Releases Guide to Planet-based Production – news from EvE
May 28th
Aldrat, Metropolis – Eve University released a new guide earlier this week, aimed at those capsuleers interested in expanding into industry through planetary extraction, processing and production. The guide is accompanied by a “quick start” holoreel.
The guide, available from the Ivy League knowledgebase, outlines useful skills for pilots interested in planetary production to study, then goes into detail on planet categorization and provides walkthroughs on how to scan for resources, set up colony facilities, link them together and harvest finished commodities.
A further section which examines possible production chains from raw materials to finished products, is expected to be revised shortly.
Along with the guide, the Eve University team has released a “quick start” holoreel which has already been viewed over 10,000 times.
The Eve University guide to planetary production was released on the 25.05.112 and, along with its accompanying video, has so far been favourably reviewed by the pilot community.

Caldari Defence Initiative Signed by Militia Corporations – news from EvE
May 24th
Tama, The Citadel – Eleven State Protectorate corporations have signed the “Caldari Defence Initiative” [CDI], a mutual assistance pact which aims to create a unified, organized core to the Caldari militia and extend support from its signatory members to other State Protectorate corporations.
Signatories to the treaty at present are Inglorious-Basterds, Payable on Death, Pillow Fighters Inc, Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Obvious Indecision, Spacetime Enterprises, Costolle Military Asistance Corporation, Multistar Protectorate Militia, The Lost Legion, The Rapalas and Dark-Force.
Ramingo, CEO of Payable on Death, claims the idea for the treaty arose when several militia corporations came together to assist fellow State Protectorate corporation Inglorious-Basterds. The CDI uses the standard principles of a mutual assistance pact – non-aggression between signatories and collective defence of all members, but it also covers a corporation for only as long as they remain affiliated (officially or unofficially) with the State Protectorate and decrees absolutely that the signatory corporations remain independent – they are not bound to follow a single leader.
Earlier this year, a heavy push from the Federal Defence Union saw the Gallente Federation reclaim sovereignty of most of its systems in the war zone. At roughly the same time, a number of prominent More >
EVE Online: Examining the "Icelandic Model" of MMO Development
May 20th
EVE Online expert Alexander "The Mittani" Gianturco wrote an interesting article on the "Icelandic Model" of MMO development that CCP Games pursues over at Gamasutra, asserting that EVE Online's systems-based sandbox design is the key to success for many of the smaller MMO outfits out there who have been trying to compete on the "Big Content" model that games like World of Warcraft pursue.
The article serves as a continuation of the talk he gave at this year's GDC on EVE Online's metagame where Alexander met many game developers who "were disheartened by the dominance of the blockbuster business model — its incredible cost, its astonishing risk and rate of failure, and the linear content-based gameplay it has engendered."
Alexander breaks down the "Icelandic Model" into four pillars, a sandbox-based endgame, a unique, engaging environment, reinvestment and organic growth, and features over linear content. The basic idea here isn't for developers looking to skyrocket to success, but for developers on a smaller budget who are comfortable with a slow burn and the cultivation of their game. EVE Online started out with a small base sandbox game, very light on frills and content, and continued to expand horizontally over time with additional features More >
Northern and Southern Coalitions Battle over BDV3-T – news from EvE
May 20th
BDV3-T, Pure Blind – Earlier today Northern and Southern Coalition capital fleets clashed over control tower structures in this system.
A Wildly Inappropriate. large control tower was destroyed by Red.Overlord forces in BDV3-T. Subsequent engagements over the next four hours involved a Northern Coalition capital fleet cynoing into the system to engage Southern Coalition control tower gunners at another moon. A Southern Coalition fleet then engaged the Northern Coalition capital forces, culminating with two titans entering the fray and discharging doomsday devices on the sieging Northern Coalition capitals.
The engagements ended with Southern Coalition forces reinforcing opposing structures. Northern Coalition suffered some support losses, but was able to pull back, saving its capital fleet with the exception of a single dreadnaught loss.

Capsuleers Believe Gravimetric Waves May Close Sansha Wormholes – news from EvE
May 20th
Romi, Kador – On 112.05.20, a wormhole generated by Sansha’s invasion vessels collapsed. Many capsuleers believe it was destabilized by their use of focused gravimetric waves.
According to some reports, the alleged breakthrough was made by capsuleers participating in “Operation Bad Moon”.
Darkcoro, one of the leaders of the operation, believes the collapse had been achieved by flooding the wormhole with large amounts of gravimetric waves. Darkoro’s claim was seemingly confirmed when Slave Ation09 broadcasted “Graviton interference destabilizing portal alpha” shortly before the collapse.
Further successful capsuleer induced wormhole collapses have not yet been reported to confirm or deny this phenomenon.
