From Friday, March 13, 2009 (6:00 p.m., US Pacific Time) through Friday, April 10, 2009 at (11:59 p.m., US Pacific Time), Sony Online Entertainment will be hosting the “Norrath’s Timeless Heroes” contest.

EverQuest II: Elements of Corruption Tour
Mar 11th
MMORPG.com’s Stephanie Morrow recently took part in a tour of the revamp of the Lavastorm zone in Sony Online Entertainment’s EverQuest II titled Elements of Corruption.
So it was that I found myself invited along on one of the infamous EQ2 tours that I had only read about and had yet to experience first hand. I have to admit, I was quite excited. I was so excited I patched a few hours early and was ready to go (on time, at that). This latest game update (also known as GU51 for those keeping track) is so much more then just an update. EQ2 boasts an evolving and ever-changing world through their live events and this is one that pushes the envelope.
Not only are there physical changes to the zone Lavastorm itself (which you can find off of the Nektulos docks) but there are new quests, instances, gear, recipe books, raids, and a plethora of other goodies coming to the game.

EverQuest II: Elements of Corruption Lore
Mar 5th
Game Update 51: Elements of Corruption will be hitting live servers soon, and the folks at EverQuest II have released a portion of the background lore behind the update.
…And the Nameless created the Gods and the Gods created all the races of Norrath to worship them and bring them honor and for many years all was well. But soon the Gods grew jealous and each coveted the worship of all mortals, that each might grow more powerful than the others. And the Gods of the Light and the Gods of the Dark made common cause against each other and mighty were the battles between them and all Norrath trembled.
Then came the Nameless, He who created all things and He who shall end all things, and He sent forth His avatar into the world saying "Keep thou the balance, that no lesser God shall rise all powerful, and that neither Light nor Dark shall reign supreme." And thus did Roehn Theer the Godslayer come to Norrath and so did the Gods come to fear one who was both less and more than a God and for a short time peace returned to Norrath.
But the Gods wished not for balance and together More >
EverQuest II: Lavastorm Quest Changes
Mar 4th
The folks at EverQuest II are advising players of upcoming changes to Lavastorm which will make some writ quests obsolete.
Almost all of the mobs in the zone have undergone a change in level. As a result of this 40+ Writ quests that previously sent you into Lavastorm needed to be adjusted, too. It can be frustrating and misleading to be offered a quest that is level 41, and then find out that the target you must defeat is level 46! (I don’t like it and I bet you don’t either.) A few only required slight level changes to match the level of the beasts you must kill for that quest. Others needed to be completely reworked due to the lack of level 40-44 mobs in the zone. The majority of those writs will now send you into Everfrost.
I wanted to inform you of this upcoming change and encourage everyone to complete any Lavastorm writs that they may have before Elements of Corruption (GU51) hits Live servers."

EverQuest II: Alternate Character Model Options
Feb 20th
Introduction
What are alternate appearances in EQII?
EQII has three ways you can view your character models. The first is the standard, default character models that you see when you first play the game.
The second is the SOGA model set, which includes a different artistic style for some of the races. Keep reading to find out more about those models.
The third is just a fun, silly way to play the game…in /cutemode. View all the characters around you as bobbleheads by using /cutemode.
What is SOGA?
SOGA is a company that was formed as a joint venture between SOE and Gamania. It was a partnership to bring EverQuest II and other projects to the Asian Pacific market.
What are the alternate character models and why were they created?
In order to broaden the appeal of EverQuest II with players in Asia, the SOGA team wanted to change some of the player character models to a different artistic style. The SOGA team decided which models they wanted to re-envision.
