Guild Wars 2: The Beta Wait is Almost Over
Jan 30th
Last week, Arena.Net announced that the beta for Guild Wars 2 would be coming in the near future. That's got us excited and we've got lots to say about it…if we can calm down long enough to write! Read on and then tell us why you're anticipating the GW2 beta in the comments.
Remember a few years ago when ArenaNet announced that they were working on Guild Wars 2? I sure do. I jumped around with excitement, told everyone I knew, and fantasized about how the game would turn out. Over the past couple years, bits and pieces of information were let out. Sometimes it was some info about the game’s features, or ideas that ArenaNet planned to implement to change the way MMOs are played. All the information has been building up, and it’s made us want to play even more. Well, from the information we received last week, our chance to finally get into the new Tyria is right around the corner. That’s right folks, last week it was announced that a series of beta events would take place starting next month.

Guild Wars 2: The Jotun Profiled
Jan 25th
The latest profile of some of the other sentient races in Guild Wars 2 is now live on the official site. This time the giant-like beings called the jotun are the subject of the article.
The blog posts lays out the details on the jotun's recent history, society and religion. In addition, the development team gives some "Behind the Scenes" information about the jotun, about their tragic history and making them more than "just the bad guys with big clubs". For Guild Wars 2, they have been gifted more intelligence, more society and history than they were originally given in Guild Wars.

Guild Wars 2: The UI – Cleaning Up the Clutter
Jan 23rd
One of the things that MMO players demand any more is a customizable UI. In today's Guild Wars 2 column, we opine about ways that Arena.Net could take on the UI and make it something that players will like from the get go. Check it out and then let us know what you think in the comments.
ArenaNet has promised a lot for Guild Wars 2 and I feel like they are going to deliver, although there is one area that has not been a huge topic of discussion. That topic is the UI and functionality, and I would like to talk about it today. In the many MMOs I have played, the screen is often littered with strange boxes containing unexplained information. Sure the health and mana bars were in a familiar location, but often the UI is so cluttered I can barely see my character and the action of the game. So what can ArenaNet do to make their UI even better for Guild wars 2? Let’s take a look.

The UI should not be in the way of the action.

Guild Wars 2: Top Nine Skill Combos
Jan 20th
PCIGN has chatted with the Guild Wars 2 dev team to find out what their favorite skill combinations are so far in the game's development. They've listed out the top nine so that we can analyze them and put them into our own GW2 battle plans.
My favorite of their favorites:
Profession: Ranger
"Rangers can choose some strange but useful pets, like the Murellow, which is kind of a diseased rat/bear that lives in the caves of Tyria. The unhygienic Murellow uses a skill called Contagion, which creates a Poison Field. An axe-wielding ranger can then use his basic attack, Richochet, to throw projectiles through the Poison Field. The axe ping pongs between enemies, applying Poison to a number of foes." -Eric Flannum, Lead Game Designer

Guild Wars 2: Open Beta In the Planning Stage
Jan 17th
Arena.Net's Angel Leigh McCoy has revealed that the open beta is in the planning stages now that Guild Wars 2 closed beta testing is underway. McCoy stated as much in an interview with NeverMetPress.com in a larger discussion of her past work and present duties with Arena.Net.
That last question is the big one, eh? And, I cannot answer it because I don’t know the answer. What I can tell you is that we’re currently in Closed Beta and planning has begun for an Open Beta. It’s all extremely exciting, and the game is coming along smashingly. It really is like magic when it all starts coming together and you see what an enormous accomplishment you’ve contributed to.

Guild Wars 2: The RPG Element
Jan 16th
In many ways, it's sometimes easy to remember that the games we love are actually supposed to have a role-playing component in them. In today's Guild Wars 2 column, we discuss how critical it will be for Arena.Net to nail the RPG in their MMO. See what you think and then discuss the column in the comments.
Guild Wars 2 needs to really nail the RPG part of the equation. Let me paint you a picture in words: As I walked through the busy market, I heard a whispering directed towards me. I began to turn around looking in all directions, trying to see the source through the sea of citizens and merchants. Upon hearing it again, I could see its source, an old man wearing a ragged old cloak hiding behind a merchant’s buggy. As I approached him, he looked up at me and I could see the fear in his eyes. His pale face, now covered in sweat looked around quickly, and soon he thrust an object with his skeleton like hands to my chest. “Take it!” Said the worried man, “Take this wretched thing away from me! I don’t want the images in my head, take them out! More >
Guild Wars 2: More Than Quest Givers
Jan 9th
One of the most interesting things about Guild Wars 2 is how diverse and widespread the races coming with the game are shaping up to be. In today's Guild Wars 2 column, we take a look at that broad diversity. Read on!
Guild Wars 2 is shaping up to be a very diverse MMORPG, and by that I mean its races. Races are an important part of MMOs. They offer options to the player and help make the in game world feel whole. We have gone over the races that we will have the opportunity to play as, but many of us have forgotten about the other races. We will be able to explore their villages and cities, accept quests from them, and even meet them on the battlefield. Given all this interaction with them, it makes sense that a lot goes into these races, even if we won’t be playing as them. So let’s go over what makes these races awesome, and not just a random race put in for players to get a few quests from.

Guild Wars 2: The Hall of Monuments
Jan 2nd
While old news to some, the thought of the Hall of Monuments and its place in the Guild Wars 2 universe intrigues us. See why we think the Hall of Monuments will be simply marvelous and then leave us your thoughts in the comments.
Guild Wars 2’s Hall of Monuments should be a very integral part of the game for all players, new or old. Let me paint you a picture… There it stood before him, reaching high into the sky underneath a thin blanket of snow. The wind whispered ancient stories of honor and valor in his ear. The tales were well known, but where they true? The hero began to walk towards the massive building, the stories of his once great ancestor swirling through his mind. The anticipation became too great! His walk soon became a run. The cold numbness he felt seconds ago was gone, and with full speed he raced to the large doors. Through the great shadow the building cast across the snow the hero reached the doors. He pushed with all his might, forcing them to open and reveal their secrets. There before him, he saw the proof he had been searching for. He had More >
