Going Rogue at HeroCon
Social Networking is Full of Win
Oct 2nd
As Hero-Con is mere weeks away, NCsoft and Paragon Studios are giving away Costume Codes to players from previous Special Event Costume Events.
If that’s not confusing, then basically it’s like this: follow City of Heroes on Twitter and Facebook, they’ll randomly post a code, be the first to enter it into your account and you could win something like the PAX 2009 Carnival of Shadows costume.
Keep your fingers twitchy, sounds like these things are going to go fast.
You can read about it officially at the official site of officialness.

City of Heroes: Mission Architect Awards Announced
Sep 30th
Today, Paragon Studios is announcing that they will be holding awards for the best use of the Mission Architect system. As a part of the announcement, our own Jon Wood spoke with Joe Morrissey about the contest and the feature that allows players to create their own in-game missions.
When Paragon Studios first launched City of Heroes: Mission Architect, it was seen by some as a bold experiment. By throwing open the doors to the tool behind their game, they were doing what very few had ever done before, taking user generated content to the next level.
On October 25th, the company will officially recognize the best that players have had to offer over the last six months and they will do so in a place that their efforts will be most appreciated, at Hero-Con, the annual fan event held for City of Heroes.
Awards will be handed out in the categories of: Best Hero Arc, Best Villain Arc, Best In-Canon Story, Best Enemy Group, and Arc of the Year. The winners in each category will go home with a prize pack that includes a Sapphire ATI HD 3650 512MB GDDR3 video card and other items.

More >City of Heroes: Looking at a Colorful Future – Issue 16
Sep 25th
MMORPG.com City of Heroes Correspondent Cecil Adkins writes this look at Issue 16: Power Spectrum, and what it adds to Paragon Studios’ original superhero game.
Let me start by saying that at first I was prepared to consider Issue 16 a "light" issue for me. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I thought it might be disappointing, but the biggest feature of the issue – powers customization – is one on which I never placed much importance. Obviously, many other City of Heroes players have talked about it, wanted it, for years now. For me, I always thought that the developers’ time could be better spent creating "real" content for the game instead of just giving us the "fluff" of recoloring our powers. However, I realized the need for City of Heroes to include this feature because something very similar is a big selling point for newcomer Champions Online.

Issue 16 reinvigorates 5-year-old City of Heroes… or does it?By Cecil Adkins

I’ve said elsewhere that I was prepared to dismiss the latest update to City of Heroes, Issue 16: Power Spectrum, as a light, perhaps even disappointing issue. I know, I know. Powers customization is a big deal, and it’s inarguably the biggest requested feature since the beginning of the Paragon Studios superhero MMO. It also required a massive amount of work to implement, some of which is detailed by a post from the lead animation developer on the official forums. So don’t think I didn’t realize how much a lot of people wanted the feature, or how much work would have to go into it, especially since at one point there were statements from the developers pretty much saying that it would be impossible – or as close to impossible as you could get without actually being impossible – to implement.
