Data-Mined SWTOR Hints at Future Content
Feb 3rd
Star Wars: The Old Republic has only been live for about two months, but that doesn’t mean Bioware doesn’t already have plans for future content. And in the great tradition of MMOs, the foundation for some of that content has already been laid, deep in the files of the game.
A few dedicated SWTOR have been working round the clock to pull as much information as possible from the hidden secrets buried in The Old Republic, and their efforts have turned up quite a few interesting tidbits.
Here’s what they’ve discovered:
- New daily quests for 50s, set on Corellia
- A new companion, named HK-51
- New Flashpoints – Lost Island and Titans of Industry
- New planet – Varl, with new operations
That’s just the beginning. And while most of this content is expected to go live in either patch 1.4 or 1.5, it’s entirely possible that none of it will go anywhere. Data-mined information does not a guarantee make.
You can keep up with all of the latest info leaks over at TORHead. In the meantime, what would you like to see added to Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online: THQ Seeking Partner for Publication
Feb 3rd
During a THQ investors' call held recently, it was revealed that the company is unable to deliver Warhammer 40k: Dark Millenium Online on its own and is seeking partnership opportunities with other companies.
"Because of the large financial commitment and associated risks, we are being realistic about our resources and we are actively seeking a partner for this compelling new MMO. We will keep you updated on our progress," Farrell told his investors.

THQ lists Warhammer MMO for fiscal 2014, has multiple unannounced games ahead

Recent rumors held that THQ had canceled its whole 2014 lineup, including Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online. THQ responded shortly after with the cryptic announcement that it “has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO.”
According to a release calendar in today’s earnings report, DMO is still on. The title is listed in the “Fiscal 2014 and beyond” category (Fiscal 2014 begins in April of 2013, just after the original release date), alongside other games THQ claims are still in the works: Turtle Rock Studio’s unnamed FPS; Volition’s inSane; Homefront 2; and the “Patrice Désilets Original Title.” Additionally, THQ has “four unannounced core titles” for fiscal 2014 and beyond, indicating an intention to remain in business beyond fiscal 2014.
Somewhat closer to home, THQ also has two “unannounced core titles” for fiscal 2013 (this year through March 2013). That’s in addition to UFC Undisputed 3, Darksiders 2, South Park, a new WWE release, Metro: Last Light, and Devil’s Third.
The Line Between Passion and Addiction
Feb 2nd
We’re all avid gamers. I think that’s safe to say, since we’re all here either writing or reading about games. However, there’s a thin line between being passionate about a subject and being completely obsessed. Game addiction is a very real problem for thousands, if not millions of people. In my days of WoW raiding, it wasn’t uncommon to hear stories of abandoned wives, lost jobs and other nasty consequences of being unable to pull oneself away from the screen.
Anthony Rosner, a third-year student at University of Central Arkansas, decided to plunge headlong into the world of game addiction with his short film, IRL. The movie focuses on World of Warcraft, but gamers of all varieties will likely find something with which to identify.
If you have about ten minutes to kill, the movie is definitely worth a look:
If anything, IRL provides us with an opportunity to discuss the perils of game addiction. When do you think passion crosses over into addiction? Have you ever had to forcefully pull yourself or a friend out of a game?

Dominus: The Beta Blues
Feb 2nd
Beta testing is just a quick way to get into our most anticipated MMO IMMEDIATELY…right? Right? Well, maybe not as today's Developer Perspectives opines. We mourn the loss of what used to be an actual testing period for games. Check it out and then add your thoughts in the comments….unless you're That Guy.
Beta testing used to mean that you presented an unfinished product to a small group of people who expected it to be unfinished. Then they would test it. This was sort of a key phase for MMO development. As we all know to our sorrow, an MMO can be flawlessly designed with intricacies like a mechanical Swiss watch and still suck the chrome off a bumper when those intricacies collide with a large number of human beings.

APB: Reloaded: A Mixed Bag of Awesome & Frustration
Feb 2nd
All Points Bulletin was taken over by GamersFirst in 2011 and the name was changed to APB: Reloaded. Since then, the team has been hard at work to "make the game that should have been". How successful have their efforts been? Read our latest review to find out and then let us know what you think in the comments.
All Points Bulletin: Reloaded is a general mixed bag of awesome and frustration. Only in San Paro will you see diminutive, round-cheeked Asian females gently pummeling heavily-muscled tattooed men for their wallets and kamikaze punks, decked out in rags to make The Joker Proud, terminate the opposition by driving everyone off a bridge. Only here; the occasional Van Diesel movie notwithstanding. If this sounds like something you can get behind, APB Reloaded may be the game for you. Maybe. Like it or not, the problem with APB Reloaded is that it's just one of those games: it either works or it doesn't.
