Final Fantasy XIV: New Patch to Feature Chocobo Mounts & Airships
Sep 1st
The latest edition of the Final Fantasy XIV Producer's Letter has hit the official site. The letter contains the usual (and impressive) list of changes being implemented in the patch as well as the interesting news that both chocobo mounts and airships will be making their debut as "fast travel" options.
Sorry for the long wait, but they’re finally coming to Eorzea in 1.19, together with chocobo mounts, to help make traveling around the realm more enjoyable. Ride a “horsebird” to get wherever you need to go by land, or book passage on an airship to fly the quickest routes between Ul’dah, Gridania, and Limsa. Airship voyages themselves will take only mere seconds, though there will be sweet little cutscenes accompanying departures and arrivals.

Final Fantasy XIV: Hints of "My Little Chocobo System"
Aug 15th
The latest Producer's Letter has been published on the Final Fantasy XIV with the tantalizing image you see below. Called the "My Little Chocobo System", the letter teases players with the news that the system, which will be renamed, is still under wraps and will hopefully make its debut in the v1.19 patch.
It might seem that battle-related content dominate the list, but rest assured, folks, we haven’t forgotten about other aspects of the game. For starters, significant improvements are in store for both Disciples of the Hand and Land, such as an overhaul of synthesis recipes, the introduction of the materia crafting system, and a brand new ability to avoid enemy aggro in the field. The growth curve for Disciples of the Hand, in particular, is in need of attention, and we’ll be taking a scalpel to that also.
Items with far-reaching impact have also been added to the list, such as Battle Regimens. It’s become clear that in order to improve Battle Regimens we’ll need to first rebuild the framework for the battle system, which can take place only after the new enemy claiming and linking systems are introduced.

Final Fantasy XIV: Guildleves and UI Receive Attention
Aug 9th
In the v1.18a patch for Final Fantasy XIV, the Guildleve and Battle systems have both received significant attention. In addition, several UI changes have been implemented including allowing players to toggle whether or not a weapon shows. A new emote was also added as well as the usual list of bug fixes.
Functionality
- When set to off, the main hand arms and tools of all PCs in passive mode will be hidden.
- /display settings made by you are visible on your computer only. For example, if your main hand display is set to off, your gear will still be visible to other players.
- /display settings will reset upon logging out. For patch 1.19, we plan to enhance this feature to reflect your /display settings on all other player’s computers. Also, personal /display settings will be saved upon logging out.

Final Fantasy XIV: Firefall Festival Begins Soon
Aug 8th
Final Fantasy XIV fans are invited to participate in the Firefall Festival scheduled to begin on August 11th and run through August 29th. The festival includes a chain of quests sending players across Eorzea in search of Bombards. Participants will win terrific awards including swimsuits and personalized wallpapers.
By now no doubt all have heard of the Firefall Faire being prepared for in Eorzea’s cities. But tell me this—do you not find something strange about these festivities? Why, I ask, in the midst of these the year’s hottest days, must we be forced to look upon balloons fashioned in the likeness of bombs, and everywhere reminded of this unbearable heat from which we constantly seek even the briefest of respites?
And is it not a particular peculiarity that the Adventurers’ Guild, in dire straits as it is in recent days, has seen fit to affiliate itself with these so-called faire chaperones? Little and less of this faire sits well in the belly of this reporter…

Final Fantasy XIV: Producer’s Letter Asks for Feedback
Jul 27th
In the latest Final Fantasy XIV producer's letter, Naoki Yoshida tables the preview of v1.19 originally planned to thank players for their feedback on v1.18. Players have been quite vocal on the FFXIV forums about issues encountered with v1.18's arrival. Yoshi tells players that the feedback will help the team determine where further adjustment/balancing needs to occur.
Patch 1.18 marked the start of radical changes to Eorzea, across a wide range of the gameâs features. We updated a lot of things, and Iâm wondering if maybe we didnât go a little overboard. We were debugging and balancing along with the development tasks, and trying to have the patch out as soon as possible. But the dev team and I are only human, so there were bound to be mistakes.
I realize some of you may be confused or upset at some of the sudden changes, but thatâs why the forums are there for you to have your voice heard. So please leave us your feedback!

Final Fantasy XIV: The Official Review
Jul 16th
It's been a long time coming, but MMORPG.com's Lori May has been spending a lot of time inside of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV. In the official MMORPG.com review, find out if Lori May's expectations for the successor to FFXI are met or if the game falls short of its namesake.
Odds are that if you’re a gamer, you’ve heard of the epic Final Fantasy franchise. Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) is the latest chapter in the series to be made as a massively multiplayer online (MMO) title, following in the footsteps of Final Fantasy XI. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy XIV doesn’t offer much for either the hardcore fans of the Final Fantasy world, or MMO gamers looking for a quality title.

Final Fantasy XIV: Enmity Overhauled
Jul 6th
In the latest developer post on the Final Fantasy Lodestone with specific regard to upcoming battle changes, players are told that enmity calculation will be greatly overhauled and a new UI indicator will allow them to gauge the levels of hostility they have generated. According to the dev post, mastery of enmity is critical to success in battle.
Actions that generate enmity can be divided into two main categories: direct and indirect. The former refers to actions that inflict damage or enfeebling status effects upon a foe, while the latter encompasses those that heal or fortify an ally. Different actions will increase enmity to varying extents, with the strength of the delivery (such as damage dealt or HP restored) also playing a part in the calculation. Enmity will be reset for players who are KO’d or otherwise incapacitated from battle for a certain period of time.

Final Fantasy XIV: Auto Attack Reform
Jun 30th
Final Fantasy XIV devs have put up a new article featuring a look at upcoming changes to the Auto Attack System. Among other reforms, the most compelling is the removal of the stamina system in favor of the overhauled auto attack feature. Devs have detailed how those changes will be implemented in the next patch as well as subsequent patches.
Auto-attack functionality will be prioritized in 1.18. Changes such as battle algorithm revisions, attack motion diversification, and peripheral motion tweaks are scheduled to take place in 1.19 and subsequent patches.
Attack Delivery
1.18 will introduce auto-attack in its basic form, which will permit Disciples of War and Magic to deliver a single strike (double for pugilists) each time it activates. Future patches will usher in multiple attacks, the activation rate of which will be determined by actions, traits, and items.

Final Fantasy XIV: Guildleve Reforms
Jun 29th
Last week developers announced that the guildleve system in Final Fantasy XIV would be overhauled. A new developer blog has shown up on the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone that lays out the details of exactly what that 'reform' means.
Regional Levequests
The skill point bonus will be abolished for battlecraft leves. The amount of skill points awarded for slaying individual enemies will be reduced, but this will be offset by the inclusion of skill points as a reward for leve completion. To accommodate this change, factors such as recommended/actual rank disparity, completion time, and partial participation will be made to influence the amount of points yielded. In addition, leve linking and sharing bonuses will be reduced, while the maximum number of linkable leves will be raised.
