Star Wars: The Old Republic: TBD to TBA?
Jul 19th
SWTORStrategies.com is reporting that a recent move in status for Star Wars: The Old Republic over at the EA official website, changing its release date from TBD to TBA. While by no means a confirmation, it does fuel the rumor that a launch day is imminent and may be announced at SDCC.
It could mean that they have a target for release but that doesn’t mean they will be willing to release it to the public yet. Since the game is still considered to be in a “polishing” state, it could be weeks or months more before we hear of a date. Just because they have a date in mind does not mean they are at a point of wanting to share that date with the public.
So is this change from TBD to TBA a sign of good things to come soon is it really nothing more than what we already know? Some fans could be grasping at straws hoping for a release date that just isn’t coming yet.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Old Republic Will Change the Industry
Jul 18th
Stepping up to the plate with this week's Devil's Advocate, Drew Wood takes a look at BioWare's supposed forthcoming Opus, Star Wars: The Old Republic and some of the general complaints from the MMO Community about the game's structure. Will SW:TOR revolutionize the way that MMOs are produced? The Devil's Advocate seems to think there's a good chance.
While it’s true that BioWare is stepping (ever so slightly) outside of the normative behavior in creating an MMO, it’s also true that The Old Republic will still call back to many of the elements that make an MMO an MMO in the first place. Perhaps most notably, the world of the Old Republic will be massive, with many players interacting on any given server from different parts of their own region so that I, a player from Canada, can pop onto a server and play with my guild who are spread out, for the sake of argument, along the Western Seaboard of the United States. Massive. Multiplayer. Online. Should you take this argument at face value, I would already be done. Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic: An Announcement of an Announcement
Jul 18th
In this week's Star Wars: The Old Republic column, Mike Bitton takes a look at the recent announcement that BioWare will be… er, making an announcement at this week's San Diego Comic-Con.
An announcement of an announcement? Have we come to that point? A number of our readers balked at the news, and while I must admit I personally found the notion amusing, it was altogether innocuous. I do understand that the hype level for Star Wars: The Old Republic is at a fever pitch, but some cryptic wording to get people buzzing about an upcoming show is really no big deal. The much more fun part is the buzzing itself!

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rumor: Standard and Collector’s Edition Details Leaked?
Jul 18th
With speculation as to what BioWare will be announcing at San Diego Comic-Con this week running wild, there is new evidence to suggest that at the very least pre-order details for both the standard and Collector's Edition of the game may be part of that announcement. This news also comes hot on the heels of word that Star Wars: The Old Republic's release date has been shifted from TBD (to be determined) to TBA (to be announced).
Two new images have surfaced, one showing what appears to be the box art for the standard edition of the game, and the second allegedly depicts the Collector's Edition art and contents.
Images of the supposed standard edition (seen below) originated at Polish retailer Empik.com, where the listing has since been pulled down, however, the art is still viewable.
Below is reportedly the boxart and content details for the Collector's Edition, originating over on the NeoGAF forums:
- Exclusive Gentle Giant Darth Malgus statue
- Star Wars: The Old Republic game discs in collectable metal case
- The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural annotated by Satele Shan
- Old Republic galaxy map
- Custom security authentication key
- Exclusive music of Star Wars: The Old Republic CD
- High quality Collector's Edition box
- Flare gun: Fire flares into the air
- Training droid: Hovers More >
Star Wars: The Old Republic: Crafting the Class Intros and a Community Q&A
Jul 18th
Brian Arndt, Senior Video Editor at BioWare, has contributed to the latest edition of Studio Insider to give us a look at the crafting of the various Class Intros akin to the movie intros that we're all so familiar with. Senior Audio Artist, Scott Morton also gets in on the action, fielding a series of community written questions.
Hi, my name is Brian Arndt and I'm Senior Video Editor here at BioWare. I've been a huge fan of Star Wars™ since I was a little kid, and the one thing that I always remember in the theater was when everyone would get really quiet as a black screen appeared. Then suddenly you would see that familiar blue text: “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” There’s that moment of anticipation before you’re blown away by the giant Star Wars logo! The epic Star Wars theme music blaring throughout the theater! Then the text fills you in on the story so far and begins its slow scrolling across the screen. It still excites me every time I see it as I know THIS is Star Wars that I'm watching.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Do Weapon Restrictions Bug You?
Jul 11th
Do the weapon restriction built into Star Wars: The Old Republic's class design bug you? Well, they sure bug MMORPG.com Community Manager Michael Bitton! Check out what he has to say on the subject and share your thoughts in the comments below.
My opinion on Star Wars: The Old Republic has evolved in the time I’ve been covering the game. I went from sky-high excitement when the project was announced, to completely bummed out for a variety of reasons (take your pick: space combat, purely humanoid races, no appearance tab, etc), to pretty excited (with tempered expectations). However, there’s one shortcoming of the game that’s peeved me for a good while now, but hasn’t really gotten much play in our weekly column: weapon restrictions.
