Battlegroup outages tonight [Updated]
Nov 24th
We are getting multiple tips that some realms are down. Blizzard says that the Whirlwind and Emberstorm battlegroups are down and that they are currently investigating the matter. We’ll keep you posted should anything change.
In the meantime, enter to win some real life and in-game loot. Or log on to Zangarmarsh and join the WoW.com guild so you can party with us on Wednesday night.
If you are unsure what battlegroup you are in, please consult this listing.
Battlegroup listings are after the break.
Update 1:16am: Zarhym says the problems were due to a complete power failure. The power is back on and they are trying to bring the realms up now. The party is still raging on Zangarmarsh. Update 11:37pm: They have discovered the source of the battlegroup issues, but still no estimate for when they will be back up. We’re having an impromptu party on Zangarmarsh if you would like to join us. Update 11:12pm: I was just able to login. No word yet on the down battlegroups. Update 10:56pm: An official response: they are working on it. Update 10:49pm: Many, including me, are having connection issues. There is a huge forum post on the issue, but no blue response yet.

The Colosseum: Daryonic from Shattered Hand
Nov 24th
The Colosseum takes us inside the world of the Gladiator (Brutal, Vengeful, Merciless, Furious, and otherwise), to interview some of the top Arena fighters in the battlegroups. Our goal is to bring a better understanding of the strategy, makeup, and work that goes into dueling it out for fame, fortune, and Frostwyrms. We’re especially focused on the people who play these games, to further shed light on the world of the PvP player.
Mages in the arena are still something a little special, even if we’ve managed to pull away from the days of Death Knight and Paladin dominance. Arena Master Daryonic from Shattered Hand is the Mage on the battlegroup Ruin’s 4th rated 5v5 team, FORTHENERDPOINTS. (At the time of this writing, he’s also on the 12th rated 3v3 team titled Vs WMDs.)
Like many PvP players, Daryonic has shifted his focused away from 2v2 arena toward 3v3 and 5v5. We were able hook up with Daryonic, who took the time to share with The Colosseum his views on current arena dynamics, and what might be coming next season. Check it out behind the cut.

Blood Pact: Meet the minions, part 3 – the succubus and crowd control, page 1
Nov 24th
Blood Pact is your weekly warlock digest brought to you by Dominic Hobbs. "A succubus is a devourer of souls, destroyer of hearts, tempter of men. A creature of profound evil and of singular mind. It cannot be brought into our world without a stimulus." ~ Gan’rul Bloodeye
Previously in ’Meet the minions’ we have looked at the imp and the voidwalker as well as how to manage your minions and your threat. In this installment our demon of choice is the succubus and the game mechanic is crowd control; fear, seduce, howl, banish and a svelte demon with wings. But before I delve in I need to clarify something to Blood Pact readers.
For a while now I’ve had a demon trying to whisper words of doubt into my ear. He’s been telling me that Blood Pact readers want PvP info in the column, that they cry out for it, they yearn for it, they need it; and that I can’t deliver any. It’s true that my knowledge and experience of PvP pretty much extends as far as being able to smell it early enough to avoid it. Don’t get me wrong, I love researching for Blood Pact but in this More >
Some new WoW-related tattoos in our gallery
Nov 24th
Time once again for us to update our WoW tattoo and license plate galleries with submissions from you readers. This time around, we’ve got a few new updates to the tattoo gallery, including Raevyndra of Rexxar’s new arm ink above, these two pieces sent in by Tonya, and Sean J.’s pretty elaborate Horde crest. If tattoos are your thing, there’s definitely some cool WoW-related ink to check out in there.
This is the only new license plate addition at the moment, but if you happen to have a WoW-related plate on your car that we haven’t seen just yet (or can grab a picture of someone else’s — just stay safe if you happen to be driving at the time), be sure to send us a note on the tipline. Stay tuned for more tats and plates when we see them.

Patch 3.3 not released tomorrow, Zarhym hates cranberries and Azeroth
Nov 24th
Simple true statement of the day: Patch 3.3 will not be released Tuesday November 24th, 2009.
Zarhym hopped on the fourms earlier this evening and said that the patch will not be dropping tomorrow, and that they don’t consider dropping a patch before a long holiday weekend something they want to do. We agree.
Zarhym goes on to say that he doesn’t prefer his day-after-thanksgiving turkey with cranberry sauce on it. That, ladies and gentleman, is a travesty. A total slap in the face to all us cranberry loving mortals out there. Is Zarhym really against cranberries because one day he ate too many cranberries, abused them, and then went on a cranberry induced rampage killing off entire swaths of AV players with his Martin Fury, only to laugh at and teabag everyone who tried to stop him?
I’m not saying he did, I’m just asking a question. Zarhym hasn’t given an answer, and without one, well… well, what can consider to be the truth then? I think you know the truth my beautiful Azeroth. I think you do. /tear. Update 7:50 p.m. EDT: We’ve placed a red phone in the WoW.com HQ. It’s sitting right here. We’ve given the number to your More >
WoW Insider Show Episode 117: Classing up the place
Nov 24th
We had a great show this past week — Michael Sacco jumped in via dialup from his country home to join Turpster and I to talk about the most popular stories in World of Warcraft over the past seven days. We talked about Mr. T and his mohawk grenade, how the new tier 10 system will work in patch 3.3, the beautiful axe that is Shadowmourne, and what it means for weapons coming in Cataclysm.
Plus, we answered your emails (including wishing one of our listeners a happy birthday), and we even played two operatic intros by our new friend Ethan B. I don’t know anything about opera, but seems to me that dude has quite the vocal chords on him. And finally, we talked about our bid for the Podcast Awards — we’re asking you to vote for us every day until the end of the month. If we win, we’ll not only give away the SleepPhones prize to one lucky listener, but we’ll record a Warcraft bedtime story for them (and all of you others via mp3 download). Please vote! Thanks, enjoy the show.

It came from the Blog: Party like a Pilgrim
Nov 23rd
According to my sources, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. is the biggest drinking night of the year. I don’t know if that’s true, but if it is, that means the roads are more dangerous. So, in the interest of your safety, we are having an It came from the Blog Pilgrim Party that night.
Ok, that’s not the real reason. We are actually having the party at that time so that we will all still have time to get the Pilgrim title on our It came from the Blog characters before the event ends on Saturday — if we so choose. Here are the particulars:
- When: 11pm EST (8pm PST, 9pm Server time) Wednesday, November 25th
- Where: Meet at the Ruins of Lordaeron (Undercity) on Zangarmarsh (U.S.)
- Who: Any Horde character of any level. No mounts required.
- How: Ask Robinator, Robinella, Robiness or any It came from the Blog Lurker or above for an invite to the guild.
- What: We will be gaining some Pilgrim’s Bounty Achievements: Food Fight!, Sharing is Caring and Pilgrim’s Paunch.
There will probably be some cooking Achievements after the event as well. We will not, under any circumstances, be doing The Turkinator Achievement as that would be counterproductive with a large party. Speaking of More >
World of WarCrafts: The littlest Murloc
Nov 23rd

And you thought we were done with Halloween references! We simply couldn’t resist wrapping up the season with this latecomer: a young Murloc from the family of Tyrialfrozen of US Ursin. The little gurgler’s mother adapted the costume from a Wal-Mart baby tiger costume pattern. Her instructions, as channeled through Tyrialfrozen:
"Follow the pattern for the body. There wasn’t anything special, just good old sewing machine and scissors. The same was done to make the main part of the head. Next was the blue and white stripes, which were sewed directly on the head. For the red hair/spikes, she cut out long strips and soaked them in half-and-half water/glue and then cut up the bottom. They were then sewn into the head through small cuts.
"The eyes were ping-pong balls that got cut in half and painted. In order to get them on the head, she had to hot glue them to some string, which then was sewn on. Next, she added some white fleece teeth, More >
Patch 3.3 PTR: Epic ammo
Nov 23rd
Here’s some good news for hunters in the next patch that I don’t think we’ve covered on its own yet. Huntsman’s Lodge points out that there are two new types of craftable epic ammo on the PTR for us to load up. Iceblade Arrows and Shatter Rounds are both learned by engineers who rep up with the Ashen Verdict, the new faction to go along with the assault on Icecrown. Both add a whopping 91.5 damage to ranged weapon DPS, and of course they’re BoE, so all you’ll need is an engineer buddy honored with the new guys. One catch: arrows require Gnomish engineering, and the bullets require Goblin engineering. Interesting choice by Blizzard, but it shouldn’t be too big a problem, especially since mats are pretty cheap anyway (two Crystallized Shadow for the arrows and two Crystallized Earth for the bullets).
Sounds good to me. Still no sign of those great ammo plans we heard about way back when, but more damage (especially some so relatively easy to get) is never a bad thing.
Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King. With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 More >The Queue: Normal view
Nov 23rd
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco be your host today.
Happy fifth anniversary, everyone! In honor of such a prestigious age for our young upstart MMO, this edition of the Queue … has … well, basically nothing to do with the anniversary at all. I mean, it’s not as if you guys asked any anniversary-related questions. So, we’re just setting today’s Queue to "normal view" and takin’ care of business.
Shall we?
Pemberton asked…
How come we can’t fly from Darkshore to the Exodar?
