Game Director Fia “Lindelu” Tjernberg is absolutely pumped about Anarchy Online’s future, and she’s not shy about promoting it. In a massive March development update post, Tjernberg discusses many projects the team has in the works for the loyal citizens of Rubi-Ka.
Probably the biggest change on the immediate horizon is a brand-new global market interface that will allow players to buy and sell goods to each other. The market will be accessed at special terminals in the main cities as well as portable terminals, and can trade across all dimensions. Free players can browse the market, but only subscribers can buy or sell in it. Work-in-progress screenshots of the market were also posted to the main site.
She reports that while the team was happy to show off the upgraded graphics engine this past week, there’s still a ways to go before it hits live. Other projects that occupy the devs’ time are improving the new player experience, balancing professions, and a streamlined game launcher with a graphical character selection screen.
100,000 More Beta-Test Invites(3.30.12)
Mar 30th
Bashiok posted:
Yesterdays 100,000 Annual Pass-holder beta-test invites ran through the night, and were still in the process of notifying the invitees by email. Those selected for yesterdays wave of invites should all have the Mists of Pandaria beta client available for download through Battle.net account management, and they should all receive the email notification by end of day today. If the beta client shows up for you in Battle.net account management, you dont need to wait for the email in order to download the client and begin testing.
Were off to a solid start with the beta test, and things are looking good in terms of realm stability, so were ready to invite another wave of Annual Pass holders. A second wave of invites is going out to 100,000 more Annual Pass holders today, starting right now.
If youre added in this or any subsequent wave, access to the beta client will show up in Battle.net account management as discussed above. Please check there today and tomorrow, as todays wave of invites will be processing throughout the day and likely into early tomorrow morning. Notification emails will also be going out, but again, no need to wait for the email if More >

Hey, how about that landslide of Mists of Pandaria information? It has taken a few days, and will probably take a few more, for the nuance of everything to really sink in. One of the topics we’ve been getting lots of questions about is the crazy new loot model we’re introducing in Mists. Weve answered several related questions in the forums, but thought it might be prudent to just put all the information in one place.
I should clarify that the systems were introducing are actually pretty simple in practice. Im only going into a fair amount of detail because those are the kinds of questions we are getting. You dont have to understand all the particulars to participate, and were certain that it will just all make sense once you are experiencing it in-game instead of hearing it described (that whole show, dont tell thing). Lets begin:
Personal Loot
Here is how looting works in todays Raid Finder groups:
The boss dies. The game randomly decides which items off of the bosss loot table drop. The group rolls Need, Greed, or Pass on each item. If you were raiding with a group of friends, you might discuss who should get each More >

The winners for Round Two will be announced April 1st. Judges, are you suuure that’s a good idea?

Well the beta is at least. You know, that one for the new expansion that will be coming out later this year? Mists of Panderia? Blizzard announced last week that the beta was now live and that email invites had been sent out.
So we’re getting down to the nitty gritty. Beta is the start of the end. It’s been months since the concept for the new expansion was announced and now we get to see some of those concepts put into action.
Don’t have beta? Want to check out MoP? Well year subscribers will be recieving invites at some point during the beta. You can also opt-in to beta for a chance to be selected. Good luck and enjoy test driving that Panda! Err…. Panderan.
World of Warcraft: ’Not Going to Significantly Change Up WoW’
Mar 23rd
In a new interview at GameSpy, Blizzard's World of Warcraft team sat down to chat about the game and what may lay in store for it in the future. In one particularly significant quote, Lead Quest Designer Dave Kosak said, "I can't say any more about that, but I'll tell you that we're not going to significantly change up WoW at any point in the future."
The thought is that people have an expectation of what will happen when they enter World of Warcraft and the team wants players to meet that expectation. They want them to know the basics before they ever enter so they can concentrate on the environment, the story and not the mechanics.
Kosak continued, "When you get a quest to kill ten things, that lets you be your class, and you know exactly what to do, which means that you can concentrate on the story, concentrate on the atmosphere, concentrate on chatting with your friends. You can really be in the world."

Is Star Wars: The Old Republic affecting World of Warcraft’s subscriber numbers? Well duh, according to Blizzard producer John Lagrave.
“Of course people are trying Star Wars — our development team are trying Star Wars! I’m one of the few people who’s still playing it actually, but yeah we’ve seen a dip in subs. It certainly has to at least be attributable to The Old Republic, but it’s also attributable to people who want to wait and get Mists of Pandaria, so it’s not surprising,” Lagrave tells Eurogamer.
He goes on to say that Blizzard is exploring its options when it comes to extending WoW’s trial (which currently tops out at level 20), and he also reiterates the fact that free-to-play isn’t in the cards for Azeroth.
World of Warcraft: The WoW Effect
Mar 20th
There is no question that Blizzard's World of Warcraft has had a profound effect on all MMOs since its launch. We call it the WoW Effect and have some thoughts to share about it. Read more of The Devil's Advocate and then leave us your thoughts in the comments.
Some notes before we continue though: today's Devil's Advocate will look at what aspects of WoW have become culturally significant as a result of its existence and subsequent popularity. Some of these aspects may not actually have originated from WoW, but are still relevant to the discussion by virtue of WoW being the strange beast that it is.

In and around the flurry of news swirling about >World of Warcraft’s upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion, a kind soul has been looking out for everyone waiting for news on the mystery-shrouded project Titan. Tom Chilton, a lead designer for WoW, told The OC Register about the “slow trickle of expertise” from the WoW team into the Titan team. Although he didn’t confirm anything, Chilton said that it’s possible that the movement of developer talent over to the Titan project may ramp up.
Despite laying off about 13 percent of its workforce, Blizzard is still hiring in order to fill the development teams for both WoW and the new project. Chilton says:
“I do believe there’s room for us to have two highly successful MMO games. I don’t feel like there’s going to be a time where we just say ‘OK, everybody on the WoW team, pack it up you’re moving over to the Titan MMO.’ I don’t see that as being a realistic probability. I think we’re going to try to staff up both teams and actually end up with two large, strong MMO teams.” Hopefully this sort of More >
